Shreveport – The Centenary men's soccer team fell 3-2 to the Schreiner University Mountaineers on Friday evening in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match and its final home contest of the season on Senior Night at Mayo Field.
The Gents (4-8-3, 1-5-1 SCAC) will finish their season on Sunday afternoon against Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas at 1 p.m. Schreiner improved to 5-8-2 and 1-5-1 in SCAC play.
Centenary took an early lead as junior D Dylan Allred (Lafayette, La.) scored just under six minutes into the match off an assist from junior D Nick Valero (Dallas, Texas). The Mountaineers tied the match at 1-1 in the 22nd minute as Zaaron Gonzalez scored with the assist from Bryan Rivas.
Schreiner then took a 2-1 lead 10 minutes later as Gonzalez scored for a second time with Iseah Hernandez tallying an assist. The Mountaineers took a 2-1 lead into the half.
Senior F Rene Escobar (Cypress, Texas) was fouled inside the box and converted a penalty kick to tie the score just four minutes into the second half. Iseah Hernandez then scored the game-winning goal in the 76th minute with Manuel Coya picking up the assist.
Schreiner finished with a 29-15 advantage in shots and each team took two corner kicks. The Gents were whistled for 17 fouls and the Mountaineers picked up 14. Six yellow cards were issued in the match.
Freshman GK Isaac Lilly (New Orleans, La.) made his first career start for the Gents and played the first 62:21 before leaving with an injury. He made a season-high seven saves before being replaced by junior GK Casey Clemo (Forney, Texas) who went the final 27:39 and made a pair of saves and allowed the one goal. Schreiner GK Matthew Shaw went the distance and made three saves.
Centenary finished 3-4-1 at home this season and will aim to win its second road contest of the season as the Maroon and White are 1-3-2.
