Birmingham, Ala. – The Centenary men's soccer team was blanked 2-0 by the Berry College Vikings on Sunday afternoon on the final day of the BSC Fall Classic hosted by Birmingham-Southern College at Goldfarb Field at Berylson Soccer Park.
The Gents (2-3-1) lost 4-0 to the host Panthers on Saturday in their tournament opener. Berry (2-3-2) played LeTourneau University on Saturday and led 1-0 but severe weather forced a delay and later a cancellation and since the match did not reach the 70th minute, it was not an official contest. Birmingham-Southern tied LeTourneau, 1-1, on Friday.
Centenary entered the weekend having won two in a row after a pair of impressive wins at home, 2-0 over Mississippi University for Women on Sept. 8 and then 5-2 against Huntingdon College.
Junior Casey Clemo (Forney, Texas) played all 90 minutes in Sunday's match, allowing a pair of first-half goals and making five saves. Berry played two goalkeepers as Lukas Haritos started and played the first half, making three saves. Jose Palacios played the second period and did not record a save.
Nathan Carlson and Lucas Stevenson scored the Vikings' goals on Sunday as Carlson struck first in the 14th minute and was assisted by Charlie Stokes and Stevenson, assisted by Brock Shoultz, scored just over seven minutes later and Berry made their 2-0 halftime lead hold for the remainder of the match. The Vikings finished with a 12-6 edge in shots and 6-4 in corner kicks. The Gents were whistled for 15 fouls, the Vikings eight, and three Gents picked up yellow cards.
Centenary returns to action on Thursday as the Maroon and White make the short trip to face the East Texas Baptist University Tigers in Marshall, Texas in a non-conference contest set for 7 p.m.
