Houston – The Centenary men's soccer team fell 8-1 to the University of St. Thomas Celts in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Friday evening at the Houston Sports Park.

The Gents (4-7-3, 1-4-1 SCAC) scored first, but could not contain the Celts (11-2-1, 4-2 SCAC) the remainder of the night. The Celts lead an abbreviated all-time series with the Gents, 5-0-1, as the first match between the two was on Oct. 18, 2019.

Junior D Dylan Allred (Lafayette, La.) gave the Gents an early lead as he scored just six minutes into the match off an assist from senior D Enrique Hernandez (Beaumont, Texas). The goal was Allred's second of the season and the assist was Hernandez's first.

The Celts tied the match roughly 10 minutes later on a score from Jayce Nunn and assisted by Ian Alvarez. Three goals in a span of six minutes then followed that gave them a 4-1 halftime advantage. UST scored four more times in the second half to secure the win. Taty Aleman scored a whopping five goals and Daniel Castro added a goal and a pair of assists.

Gents' junior GK Casey Clemo (Forney, Texas) started and played the first 78:14, allowing seven goals and making eight saves. Freshman GK Isaac Lilly (New Orleans, La.) made his second appearance of the season and played the final 11:46, allowing one goal and making his first-career save.

Rodrigo Lazo started in goal for the Celts and played the first half, allowing Allred's goal and making two saves. Cristo Gayoso played the second half and made two saves.

The Celts finished with a 29-7 advantage in shots and took 11 corner kicks while the Gents took four. The teams combined for 21 fouls.

Centenary returns to action next Friday as the Maroon and White will face the Schreiner University Mountaineers (4-7-2, 0-4-1 SCAC) in their final home match of the regular season set for 5 p.m. as the Gents will celebrate Senior Day.
