Birmingham, Ala. – The Centenary men's soccer team fell 4-0 to the host Birmingham-Southern College Panthers on Saturday afternoon in its opening match of the BSC Fall Classic at Goldfarb Field at Berylson Soccer Park.

The Gents (2-2-1) and Panthers (3-2-1) played a scoreless first half and then BSC scored four times in the second half including three in the last five minutes of the match. The Panthers finished with a decisive edge in shots (26-7) and kept Gents' junior Casey Clemo (Forney, Texas) busy as he made a season-high nine saves in his 90 minutes of action.

Josh Guerra scored the Panthers' first goal, assisted by Pirmin Blattmann, in the 60th minute, and struck again 25 minutes later for an unassisted goal and a 2-0 lead. Guerra was then fouled in the box by Centenary senior MF Hunter Booth (Harrodsburg, Ky.) who received a yellow card, and Guerra converted on a penalty kick to tally a hat trick.

Caleb Pruett scored an unassisted goal in the final seconds of the match. Panthers' GK Jayden Schell played all 90 minutes and made three saves. The Gents took seven corner kicks to the Panthers' six, and there were 22 combined fouls called – 12 on Birmingham-Southern and 10 on Centenary.

The Gents will face Berry College on Sunday at 3 p.m. in their final match of the weekend.
