Ladies Fall To LSUS In Exhibition Contest

Shreveport – The Centenary women's basketball team fell 88-48 to the LSUS Lady Pilots on Wednesday evening in an exhibition contest at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies prepped for their regular season which will begin next Wednesday against the Jarvis Christian University Bulldogs in Hawkins, Texas. The Lady Pilots improved to 1-1 after they fell 79-72 at home in overtime to Texas Wesleyan last Friday.

Centenary fell behind 25-14 after the first quarter and then was outscored 20-11 in the second period to trail LSUS by 45-25 at the half. The Lady Pilots then finished with a 24-11 advantage in the third quarter and outscored the Ladies, 19-12 in the final 10 minutes.

Sophomore G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.) led the Ladies with 13 points, sophomore F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) scored nine, and the Ladies received seven points each from sophomore G Madison Davis (Shreveport, La.) and sophomore F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.).

Sophomore G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) and junior G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.) each scored five and freshman G Mallory Dougharty (Evadale, Texas) and senior G Tamia Alexander (Breaux Bridge, La.) each scored one. sophomore G Lauren Castillo (Fort Worth, Texas), freshman G Kira Latson (Pearland, Texas), Senior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.), and sophomore F/C Makalyn Savoy (Opelousas, La.) all played and did not score.

The Ladies finished 14-60 from the floor for 23.3 % while the Lady Pilots were 36-65 for 55.4 %. Centenary shot the ball well from beyond the arc (9-21 for 42.9 %) and were 11-22 from the free throw line for 50 %. The Lady Pilots struggled from 3-point range (3-12 for 25 %) and finished 13-17 from the FT line for 76.5 %.

Jones was the Ladies' leading rebounder as she grabbed nine boards, five on the defensive end and four offensive rebounds. Bagwell grabbed four, Savoy pulled down three, and Powell and Stokes also each had three. Jones and Powell each had two steals, Jones and Stokes each blocked a hot, and four players each tallied one assist.

Five LSUS players reached double figures, led by 12 off the bench from Tyquanna Ross with 12. Destanee Roblow led the Lady Pilots in rebounds with eight and added 10 points. Tanashia Hairston scored 11, and Tahjea Smith and Skyler Christmas each scored 10.
