Ladies Bested By Wiley On Road, 69-35

Marshall, Texas - The Centenary women's basketball team fell 69-35 to the Wiley University Lady Wildcats on Saturday at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Ladies (0-2) fell behind the Lady Wildcats (5-1) 37-23 at halftime and were held to 17.5 % shooting (10-57) from the floor for the game. Centenary missed all 12 of its attempts from beyond the arc and finished 15-24 (62.5 %) from the free throw line. Wiley shot 48.1 % (25-52) from the field for the game, 42.9 % (3-7) from 3-point range, and 16-29 from the FT line for 55.2 %.

Wiley led 17-10 after the first quarter and then ran away from the Ladies in the second period (20-3), before doing similar work in the third quarter, outscoring the Maroon and White, 23-7. The Ladies finished with a 15-9 advantage in the fourth quarter but it was too little too late.

Centenary finished with 35 rebounds, 11 steals, five assists, two blocked shots, and 21 turnovers. Wiley tallied 51 rebounds, 17 assists, 13 steals, three blocks, and 23 turnovers. The Lady Wildcats scored 36 points in the paint, 25 points off of turnovers, 18 second-chance points, 12 fast break points, and received 38 points from their bench. The Ladies finished with 14 points in the paint, scored six points off turnovers, 10 second-chance points, six fast break points, and had eight bench points.

Sophomore G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) led the Ladies with 10 points in 35 minutes and was the only Centenary player to reach double figures. She was 4-9 from the floor and 2-4 from the FT line with five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Sophomore F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) scored seven in 24 minutes on 3-12 shooting. She was 1-2 at the FT line with four rebounds and two steals. Sophomore F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) scored six in 28 minutes and she got all of her points at the FT line (6-8) and added three rebounds, a pair of steals and a blocked shot.

Junior G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and added four points, three steals, an assist, and a blocked shot in her 19 minutes. Sophomore F/C Makalyn Savoy (Opelousas, La.) played nine minutes off the bench and scored four points and had two rebounds. Sophomore G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.) played 22 minutes and had two rebounds, one point, an assist, and a steal. Freshman G Mallory Dougharty (Evadale, Texas) had one point in her eight minutes. Senior G Tamia Alexander (Breaux Bridge, La.) had two points and two rebounds in 16 minutes.

Jamiya Eddy led Wiley with 13 points and was the only player in double figures for her team but four Lady Wildcats scored seven or more points each and four others scored at least four. Twelve players saw action for Wiley in the game with each one scoring at least a point and all but one grabbed at least one rebound.

The Ladies will face the LeTourneau University YellowJackets on Wednesday evening in its home opener, a non-conference contest set for 5:30 p.m. at the Gold Dome.
