Barrow Scores Career-High 24 Points But Ladies Fall At Celts, 75-48

Houston- The Centenary women's basketball team fell 75-48 to the University of St. Thomas Celts in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Tuesday night at the Jerabeck Activity and Athletics Center.

The Ladies (1-9, 0-3 SCAC) fell behind 28-8 after one quarter of play and trailed 48-22 at halftime as the Celts improved to 3-7 and 2-1 in SCAC play. St. Thomas outscored Centenary 20-14 in the second quarter and 16-7 in the third and then the Ladies finished strong by outscoring the Celts 19-11 in the fourth.

Centenary shot just 22.6 % (14-67) from the floor, 2-20 (10 %) from beyond the arc, and 18-26 from the free throw line for 69.2 %. St. Thomas was 30-63 from the floor (47.6 %) for the game, 8-18 (44.4 %) from 3-point range, and 7-11 from the FT line for 63.6 %. The Celts outrebounded the Ladies, 43-32, and had four players reach double figures.

Sophomore G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) led all scorers with a career-high 24 points as she reached double figures for the sixth-straight game and eighth time this season. Sophomore F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) joined her in double figures with 13 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Barrow played all 40 minutes and was 8-15 from the floor, 2-5 from beyond the arc, and 6-7 at the FT line with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Stokes was 4-11 overall and 5-6 from the FT line and had a game-high four blocked shots and two steals.

The Ladies finished with 22 points in the paint, 12 second-chance points, five fast break points, and three bench points. The Celts had 40 points in the paint, 43 bench points, 15 second-chance points, and six fast break points. Centenary turned the ball over 15 times while St. Thomas gave it away 17 times. The Ladies scored nine points off of turnovers while the Celts scored 13. The Ladies finished with eight steals, six assists, and six blocked shots and the Celts had 19 assists, 11 steals, and four blocks.

Sophomore G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.) scored five points in 30 minutes with five rebounds, two assists, a blocked shot, and a steal and sophomore F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) and sophomore G Lauren Castillo (Fort Worth, Texas) each scored two points. Powell played 10 minutes and added a steal as she went 2-2 from the FT line and Castillo came off the bench and played 21 minutes and added a pair of rebounds. Freshman G Mallory Dougharty (Evadale, Texas) had one point and three rebounds with a steal in 22 minutes, freshman G Kira Latson (Pearland, Texas) played 11 minutes and was held scoreless but blocked a shot and had a rebound and freshman F Yadneli Molina (Vinton, La.) also did not score but grabbed four rebounds.

Ravyn Ellis led the Celts with 13 points, Nia McGee and Hayden Morin each scored 12, and Jade McAlsister scored 11. Audrey Hernandez added seven points, Kareena Aragon had six, and Jeci Gonzales and Maci Whitfield each scored four.

Centenary remains on the road for an exhibition contest against the McNeese State University Cowgirls in Lake Charles on Thursday set for 5:30 p.m. at the Legacy Center.
