Ladies Fall At Home To Dallas On Saturday

Shreveport- The Centenary women's basketball team dropped a 78-47 decision to the University of Dallas Crusaders on Saturday evening in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest inside the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (1-17, 0-10 SCAC) fell behind 40-23 at halftime against the Crusaders (11-8, 5-5 SCAC) and could not recover. Dallas led 20-16 after the first quarter, edged the Ladies 14-11 in the third quarter after that 17-point halftime lead, and finished with a 24-13 edge in the fourth quarter.

Centenary shot 26.6 % (17-64) from the floor while Dallas finished at an impressive 54.0 % (34-63). The Ladies went 4-13 from beyond the arc (30.8 %) and 9-16 from the free throw line (56.3 %). The Crusaders finished just 2-12 from beyond the arc for 16.7 % and went 8-13 from the FT line for 61.5 %. Dallas won the rebounding battle, 46-36, and forced the Ladies into 14 turnovers while committing 11 themselves.

The Crusaders dominated inside, finishing with a 50-22 edge in points in the paint, scored 18 points off of Centenary's 14 turnovers, had 10 second-chance points to the Ladies' seven, held a 22-7 advantage in fast break points, and Dallas' bench outscored Centenary's 25-0. Centenary only played six players as Dallas took advantage of the Ladies' lack of depth.

Sophomore G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.) led the Ladies with 19 points, reaching double figures for the eighth-straight game and 11th time this season. She was 6-17 from the floor in 38 minutes and was 2-4 from the 3-point line and 5-7 from the FT line with seven rebounds, three steals, two assists, and a blocked shot. Sophomore F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) scored 14 points and matched Plumber with a team-leading seven boards. She scored in double figures for the sixth time this season. She was 6-15 from the floor in 31 minutes with one assist and finished 2-5 from the FT line.

Sophomore F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) added eight points in 37 minutes as she was 2-4 from FT line with two treys in four attempts along with five rebounds and four steals. Senior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) had six points, five rebounds, and an assist in 35 minutes. Freshman G Kira Latson (Pearland, Texas) did not score but had four rebounds and one steal in 19 minutes off the bench. Sophomore G Madison Davis (Shreveport, La.) was also held scoreless but grabbed five rebounds and had an assist as she played all 40 minutes.

Kat Santos' 22 points led Dallas and all scorers and Caroline Croft joined her in double figures with 14. The Crusaders played 15 players as four Dallas players scored five or more points and three scored eight or more. Santos was a perfect 11-11 from the floor with six rebounds and two blocked shots in her 24 minutes and Croft was also perfect (6-6) shooting the ball with one trey and seven rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a blocked shot.

Tessa Hastings finished with nine points and nine boards in 25 minutes with five assists, two blocks, and a steal, Alyssa Sullivan and Maria Dicenta each scored eight, and Adryan Alvarez, Bailey Darneal, and Sophia Geisler combined to score 13 points.

The Ladies will be off for 10 days before playing host to the University of St. Thomas Celts on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
