Sherman, Texas - The Centenary women's basketball team fell 68-55 to Austin College in its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener on Friday night at Hughey Gym.

The Ladies (1-7, 0-1 SCAC) have a quick turnaround as they will face the University of Dallas Crusaders on Saturday in Irving, Texas at 6 p.m. The 'Roos (2-5, 1-0 SCAC) will remain home on Saturday to face the University of St. Thomas.

Austin College outscored Centenary 16-9 in the first quarter and 18-14 in the second to take a 34-23 lead at halftime. The Ladies then outscored the 'Roos in the third period, 18-14, before Austin College finished with a 20-14 edge in the fourth to secure the win.

Sophomore G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.) led the Ladies with 17 points, sophomore G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) had 11, and sophomore F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) scored 10. Sophomore F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) and freshman G Mallory Dougharty (Evadale, Texas) each scored seven, and sophomore G Madison Davis (Shreveport, La.) had three. Junior G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.) was heled scoreless but had four rebounds, three steals, an assist, and a blocked shot.

Centenary shot 32.3 % (20-62) from the floor for the game, 29.4 % (5-17) from beyond the arc, and went a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. Austin College was 23-49 overall for 46.9 %, 5-15 from beyond the arc for 33.3 %, and 17-25 (68 %) from the FT line. The 'Roos outrebounded the Ladies, 44-28, grabbing 34 on the defensive end along with 10 offensive boards.

Each team scored 30 points in the paint, the 'Roos finished with an 11-6 edge in second-chance points, and fast break points (6-2). Austin College turned the ball over 17 times which Centenary turned into nine points, and the 'Roos scored just six points off of the Ladies' 10 miscues. AC finished with a slight edge (15-13) in bench points.

Three Austin College players reached double figures, led by a game-high 18 points from Brooklyn Matthews. Lexi Martin scored 16 and Lauren Traylor had 10. Amarys Cuellar and Avory Miller each had nine, Naomi Anamekew had five, and Megan O'Neil scored one. Matthews recorded a double-double for the 'Roos with 11 rebounds and Traylor matched her with a game-high 11 boards to also notch a double-double.

Plumber played 36 minutes and was 4-17 from the floor, 7-7 at the FT line and hit a pair of treys. She added three rebounds and three steals. Barrow played all 40 minutes and was 5-10 from the floor with one trey, six rebounds, a game-high six assists, and a blocked shot. Powell came off the bench and played 30 minutes and was 4-11 from the floor and 2-2 at the FT line with two steals. Stokes played 22 minutes and was 3-10 from the floor and 1-1 at the FT line with five rebounds, three blocked shots and a steal and Dougharty was 3-4 from the floor and 1-1 from beyond the arc in 27 minutes with five boards and a steal.
