
Ladies Fall To Hendrix At Home On Tuesday

Shreveport - The Centenary women's basketball team lost 62-48 to the Hendrix College Warriors on Tuesday evening in a non-conference contest inside the Gold Dome.
The Ladies (1-5) have lost four games in a row and were beaten by the Warriors (4-3) for the second time this season after dropping a 69-48 decision on the road to open the season on Nov. 10.
Junior G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) and freshman F Anaya Yunusah (New Orleans, La.) each scored 12 points to lead the Ladies. Riley Brady led all scorers with 14 points for the Warriors and Simone Shields had 12.
Hendrix led 20-11 after the first quarter and edged Centenary 12-10 in the second period to lead 32-21 at halftime. The teams finished tied 16-16 in the third quarter and the Warriors outscored the Ladies 14-11 to secure the win.
The Warriors shot 22-64 (34.4 %) from the floor for the game, 8-22 from 3-point range (36.4 %), and 10-13 from the free-throw line for 76.9 %. The Ladies shot 18-66 (27.3 %) from the field for the game, 2-13 from beyond the arc for 15.4 % and 10-14 from the FT line for 71.4 %.
Hendrix outrebounded Centenary 46-34 and its bench provided 26 points while the Ladies' reserves scored 14. Each team finished with 28 points in the paint and Hendrix edged Centenary, 15-14, in second-chance points. Centenary scored 21 points off of 22 Hendrix turnovers and the Warriors turned 16 Centenary turnovers into 14 points. Hendrix had six fast break points and Centenary scored four. The Ladies finished with 12 steals, six assists, and two blocked shots while the Warriors had nine steals, five assists, and a pair of blocked shots.
Freshman F Shyanne Phillips (Leesville, La.) and freshman G Nevaeh Rivera (Rosepine, La.) each scored eight points, junior F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) had four, and junior F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) and freshman G Kaysharia Woods (Zachary, La.) each scored two. Ava Knoedl and Natalie Edmonson each scored nine for Hendrix, Brailey Forst had five, Carter Crane scored four, and Megan Gray and Bella Cates combined for three. Forst also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Barrow played 33 minutes and was 5-12 from the floor and 2-2 from the FT line with six rebounds and an assist. Yunusah played 27 minutes off the bench and was 5-10 from the floor and 2-4 at the FT line with four boards, one blocked shot, and one assist. Phillips played 26 minutes and was 3-9 from the floor and 2-2 at the FT line with a team-high nine rebounds and an assist. Rivera was 3-13 from the floor in 27 minutes and 2-4 from beyond the arc with three assists, three rebounds, and a game-high six steals. Woods was 1-6 from the floor in 24 minutes with two steals and a rebound. Stokes was 1-5 from the floor and 2-2 from the FT line with four rebounds, a blocked shot and a steal in 25 minutes and Powell played 18 minutes and was 2-2 at the FT line with a rebound and a steal.
The Ladies will next be in action on Wednesday, Dec. 4 as they open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at home against the University of Ozarks in a contest set for 5:30 p.m.
