
Alicia Owens Named Assistant Softball Coach
Alicia Owens has joined the Centenary softball program as an assistant coach, interim head coach Whitney Patterson announced on Wednesday.
Shreveport – Alicia Owens has joined the Centenary softball program as an assistant coach, interim head coach Whitney Patterson announced on Wednesday.
Owens, a Santa Fe, Texas, native is a 2018 graduate of LSUA (LSU at Alexandria) and played two seasons for the Generals after transferring from Alvin Community College in Alvin, Texas where she played from 2014-16.
"I am very excited to join the Centenary softball program and work with coach Patterson and get the opportunity to help these Ladies be successful, said Owens.
"I am grateful for the opportunity here and look forward to a great 2022 season as we are preparing for that right now."
She was a Second-team all-conference selection as a catcher her senior season at LSUA and made the Dean's List. Owens graduated with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and a minor in psychology. She was a First-team all-conference selection as a freshman at Alvin. Owens attended Santa Fe High School and was named Offensive Player of the Year as a senior and a first-team all-district infielder as a freshman.
"I am very excited to have Alicia join our staff," said Patterson. "She was an outstanding collegiate player and I know she will help teach the Ladies some great things in order to lead them to success. We are fortunate to have here at Centenary and we cannot wait for the spring."
Patterson, who just completed her seventh season as assistant coach for the Ladies in 2021, takes over as interim head coach for the 2022 season. Patterson, a 2014 Centenary graduate with a degree in psychology, played for the Ladies for two seasons (2013 and 2014) as an infielder. She has primarily worked with the outfielders and with the slap hitters, as well as the off-season weight and conditioning programs during her time as assistant coach.
The Ladies will look to build upon a great 2021 season as they advanced to the championship round of the SCAC Championship for the first time in program history in the D3 era. The Ladies finished the season with an 18-20 record and went 8-11 in SCAC play, and were the No. 5 seed in the conference championship.
Six Centenary Ladies were named All-SCAC as freshman right fielder Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.) was a First Team All-SCAC selection, and five Ladies made the second team/Honorable Mention squad.
