The Ladies (12-16) took two of three at home last weekend over Schreiner in conference play while the YellowJackets (11-21) were swept at Mary Hardin-Baylor last weekend and have lost four in a row. The teams will be meeting for the first time since 2018 when they split a DH in Longview.
Centenary clinched the series over the Mountaineers with a 2-0 victory on Saturday, which was Senior Day for the Ladies. The teams split a doubleheader the day before, with Schreiner winning game one 3-2 and Centenary winning game two, 2-1. Centenary finished the season with an 8-5 home record, winning seven of its final eight home games.
Freshman P Anna Scarbrock (Alexandria, La.) was named the SCAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday after a superb series last weekend. The rookie picked up two wins, pitched one complete game (her fifth of the season), and did not allow an earned run in 10.1 innings of work. She tossed a four-hit complete game in game two of a doubleheader on Friday allowing just one unearned run and no walks with four strikeouts. She then came on in relief of senior Ashley Hunter (Benton, La.) on Saturday and pitched the final three innings and allowed three hits and struck out one, as she faced 11 batters and threw 40 pitches (28 strikes) to lead Centenary to the shutout win on Senior Day.
Hunter pitched well, going four scoreless innings and allowing just a single hit with one strikeout. The game was scoreless headed to the bottom of the fifth and then the Ladies' offense got going. Senior 2B Jaymee Wilkinson (Brazoria, Texas) reached on an error to start the inning and advanced to second on a passed ball. Junior CF Mallory Stout (Trinity, Texas) then ripped an RBI triple to left-center to score Wilkinson for a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore RF Isabelle Dominguez (Newark, Calif.) grounded out for the first out by then freshman DP Alyssa Akers (Maurice, La.) delivered a sacrifice fly to score Stout for a 2-0 lead. The Mountaineers had runners at the corners with two outs in the sixth but Scarbrock got a groundout to keep Schreiner off the board.
The Ladies recorded their second shutout of the season after doing so on March 19 at home in game one of a doubleheader over the Mississippi University for Women Owls, winning 3-0.
