Ladies Face Arlington Baptist In Home Opener On Tuesday

Shreveport - The Centenary softball team will finally make its home debut on Tuesday as the Ladies welcome the Arlington Baptist University Patriots to town for a non-conference doubleheader set for 5 and 7 p.m. at the Centenary Softball Complex.

The Ladies (3-3) are eager to get back on the field as they have not played since going 2-2 in the 2022 Warrior Spring Fling hosted by Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. Feb. 19-20. Centenary was scheduled to play at Texas A&M-Texarkana in a DH on Feb. 22 but it was cancelled due to weather.

The Maroon and White went 4-6 at home last season and will be playing on its home field for the first time since April. The Patriots enter Tuesday's DH at 1-3 on the season and the teams will meet for the first time in history. Centenary and Arlington Baptist will play another DH at 5 and 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Centenary enters Tuesday's play hitting a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference-best .366 as a team with an OBP of .443 and is slugging .509. The Ladies have scored 40 runs, collected 64 hits, and have 16 extra-base hits. They have stolen six bases and have yet to be caught. Centenary's walk to strikeout ratio is also impressive through six games, as Ladies' batters have walked 23 times and only struck out 25. The Ladies' team ERA is 4.69, fourth in the conference, and their staff has recorded 15 strikeouts and allowed just two home runs.

Four Ladies currently rank in the top eight in the SCAC in batting average, led by senior C Erin Lewis (Leesville, La.) who is hitting a scorching .526 which is second in the league. She is also tied for third in the conference in RBI (8) and tied for fourth in runs scored (7). Lewis has hit all three of Centenary's home runs and has 10 hits with a team-high four doubles which is also tied for most in the conference. Her OBP is .625 and she is slugging over 1.000. Her three homers also lead the conference as do her 23 total bases.

Lewis was named the SCAC HItter of the Week on Feb. 21 as she had a fantastic weekend for the Ladies in the Warrior Spring Fling. She batted .461 (6-for-13) with two homers, two doubles, six RBI, and had 14 total bases. Lewis walked three times and did not strike out at all in the four games during the weekend. Lewis delivered a walk-off home run to left field to give the Ladies a 4-3 win over Westminster (Mo.) on Feb. 19.

Lewis is currently fourth in the conference in hitting (.478) and she is tied for second in runs scored (8) and leads the conference and team in hits (11) and has five RBI, a double, and a triple. She has an OBP of 520 and is slugging .609. Cox is third in the conference with 14 total bases and is a perfect 6-6 in stolen bases which is tops in the league. Cox has four multi-hit games so far this season and is up to 27 stolen bases for her young career while only being caught four times.

Junior Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.) is tied for the conference lead in triples with two and is hitting .391 with an OBP of .417 and is slugging .565. She has nine hits, scored five runs and four RBI. Freshman Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) is off to an impressive start in her rookie season as she is hitting .455 with an OBP of .478 and is slugging .545. She is tied with Lewis for second on the team with 10 hits and has six RBI, two doubles, and has scored five runs.

Junior OF Mallory Stout (Trinity, Texas) is hitting .389 (.476 OBP/.500 slugging) and has seven hits, six runs scored, four RBI, and two doubles. Freshman Kaitlyn Dickey (Church Point, La.) is hitting. 438 and has seven hits and four RBI. Her OBP is 474 and she is slugging .438.

Freshman P Katelyn Moss (Olive Branch, Miss.) has the Ladies' lowest ERA at 2.50 and has a team-high eight strikeouts in 14 innings pitched. Senior P Ashley Hunter (Benton, La.) is 2-0 and has five K's in her 8.2 IP. Freshman P Anna Scarbock (Alexandria, La.) has pitched a team-leading 14.2 IP and is 1-3 with a 5.25 ERA.
