
Ladies Open SCAC Play At Home Versus Celts
The Centenary softball team opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at home this weekend versus the University of St. Thomas Celts beginning on Saturday with a doubleheader set for Noon & 2 p.m. at the Centenary Softball Complex.

The Ladies (2-2) recorded a sweep over Millsaps College on Feb. 8 to open their season and then were swept in a DH at Texas A&M University-Texarkana on Sunday. Centenary's scheduled DH versus Belhaven University last Saturday was postponed and rescheduled for April 1. The Celts (4-3, 3-0 SCAC) opened conference play with a home sweep over McMurry University last weekend. The series concludes on Sunday with a single set at Noon.
Centenary is hitting .272 as a team with a .343 OBP and a .312 slugging percentage. The Ladies have scored 20 runs, recorded 34 hits, drawn 10 walks, and have five extra-base hits, and stolen three bases.
Senior UT Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) is off to a hot start to the season after she was limited to just eight games last season due to injury. Rivero is hitting .500 (6-12) with a team-leading four RBI along with two walks and a run scored.
Freshman INF Kaitlynn Alello (Denham Springs, La.), junior SS/2B Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.), and senior Abby Touchet (Shreveport, La.) each have four hits and four players each have two RBI – Alello, junior P/UT Abigail Hodgson (Florence, Texas), sophomore IF Mandy Hoback (Wylie, Texas), and junior C/IF Jaeden Thrasher (Forney, Texas). Sophomore OF Noelle Sandmann (Huntsville, Texas) has three hits and an RBI and sophomore OF Taylor Good (Flower Mound, Texas) has a hit and an RBI.
Senior P Anna Scarbrock (Alexandria, La.) went the distance in the circle in the Ladies' 4-3 win in 10 innings on opening day over Millsaps as she allowed just two earned runs with two BB and six K's in nine innings of work for her 21st-career complete game which ranks third in the division III era (2012-present) in program history. Junior P/OF Alexis Roach (Pineville, La.) is 1-0 in two starts with a 2.63 ERA and junior P Riley Myers (Shreveport, La.) made her first start of the season last weekend and allowed just an earned run in four innings. Senior LHP/IF Emma Shepherd (Athens, La.) has made two appearances in the circle and has a 3.23 ERA in 8.2 IP.
The Ladies lost all four games to the Celts last season, suffering a three-game sweep at the hands of St. Thomas in Houston in the regular season and then the Celts eliminated the Ladies from the SCAC Tournament and ended Centenary's season last May in Seguin, Texas.
The Ladies were picked to finish seventh this season in the SCAC preseason coaches' poll this season and the Celts were picked fourth.
