
Ladies To Face 'Roos This Weekend At Home In SCAC Play
The Centenary softball team resumes Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend at home as the Ladies will face the Austin College ‘Roos in a three-game series beginning on Friday with a doubleheader set for 3 p.m. at the Centenary Softball Complex.
Shreveport – The Centenary softball team resumes Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend at home as the Ladies will face the Austin College 'Roos in a three-game series beginning on Friday with a doubleheader set for 3 p.m. at the Centenary Softball Complex.
The series between the Ladies (14-13, 9-8 SCAC) and 'Roos (2-26, 2-16 SCAC) will conclude on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The threat of potential severe weather and the likelihood of rain this weekend necessitated changes to the schedule as the series originally called for a DH on Saturday at Noon and 2 PM followed by a single game on Sunday at Noon. Centenary took a break from league play on Tuesday as the Maroon and White faced the nationally-ranked Belhaven University Blazers in a non-conference doubleheader at home, falling 7-1 in game one and 3-0 in game two.
The Ladies enter the weekend winners of eight of their last 10 games as the they had their season-high eight-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday. Centenary's winning streak was their longest since March 16-24, 2019 and Centenary has now exceeded both its total number of overall wins and conference wins from last season with 12 games remaining in the regular season. The Ladies are 7-7 on their home field this season and winners of five of their last seven.
Centenary has a .272 team batting average with a .353 OBP and is slugging .347 with eight home runs, 36 extra-base hits, and 251 total bases. The Ladies have scored 116 total runs and average 4.3 per game with six games of 10+ hits. The Ladies scored a season-high 10 runs in a 10-3 win over Millsaps College on Feb. 8 at home in the second game of a season-opening DH and have scored eight+ five times.
Senior P Anna Scarbrock (Alexandria, La.) is in the midst of another impressive season as she was named the SCAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday after she did not allow an earned run in 14 innings as she tossed a pair of complete games against LeTourneau (March 25) and Dallas (March 29). Scarbrock, who now has six CG's and a pair of shutouts this season, is 6-5 with a 3.27 ERA in 13 appearances and 10 starts. In 62.0 innings pitched, she has struck out 20 while only allowing seven walks. She is tied for first on the team in wins, first in games started, second in ERA, second on the team in IP, and second in appearances.
Senior Emma Shepherd (Athens, La.) is the team leader in ERA (2.28), appearances (17), IP (73.2), and is tied with Scarbrock for wins with six as she is 6-4 this season with seven games started. Shepherd, who has three CG's, made history on March 22 against Southwestern as she struck out 14 batters, which is the most by a Centenary pitcher in a single game in the division III era (2012-present) of the program. Shepherd went the distance and allowed one earned run and two hits in her seven innings of work. Shepherd's 14 strikeouts are the most by a SCAC pitcher in a game this season. She currently ranks in the top 10 in the conference in ERA, IP and strikeouts.
Senior UT Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and senior Abby Touchet (Shreveport, La.) are two of the conference's top offensive players as they are tied for sixth in the league in RBI (22). Rivero is hitting .376 (second on team) with a .380 on-base percentage and is slugging .506. She and Touchet are tied for the team lead in hits with 32 each. Rivero has recorded 10 multi-hit games this season with a season-high four against Ozarks on Feb. 28.
Touchet leads the team in batting average (.405), home runs (five), and doubles (six). In 79 AB, she has only struck out four times while drawing a team-high 15 BB and has been hit by a pitch three times. She has a .510 OBP and is slugging a team-best .671 with 10 multi-hit games which includes one 3-hit performance. Touchet has also driven in 2+ runs in game seven times with a season-high four at Ozarks on March 1.
The Ladies were picked to finish seventh this season in the SCAC preseason coaches' poll this season and are currently sixth in the league standings while the 'Roos, picked eighth, are in last place.
The 2025 SCAC Softball Tournament, a double-elimination event, will be held May 2-4 on the campus of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. The Ladies have made eight-consecutive SCAC Tournament appearances.
