
Softball Set To Face Concordia On Road This Weekend
The Centenary softball team hits the road this weekend in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference to face the Concordia University Tornados beginning on Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled for Noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday at Roberts Family Field.
Austin, Texas – The Centenary softball team hits the road this weekend in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference to face the Concordia University Tornados beginning on Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled for Noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday at Roberts Family Field.
The series between the Ladies (6-8, 3-5 SCAC) and Tornados (11-8, 7-4 SCAC) will conclude on Sunday with a single game set for Noon.

Centenary aims to rebound after being swept at home last weekend by the nationally-ranked Texas Lutheran Bulldogs while Concordia recorded a sweep at home over the University of the Ozarks. The Tornados are 9-2 at home this season and the Ladies are 4-1. Concordia leads the all-time series with Centenary 3-0 with a win in 2021 and a DH sweep last season in Shreveport but the schools will meet for the first time as conference opponents this weekend.
The Ladies were picked to finish seventh this season in the SCAC preseason coaches' poll this season and the Tornados were picked fifth.
Centenary is hitting .266 as a team with a .351 on-base percentage and a .348 slugging percentage. The Ladies have scored 62 runs, recorded 106 hits, drawn 39 walks, and have 21 extra-base hits, six home runs, and nine stolen bases. Centenary has a 3.66 team ERA with two complete games.
The Ladies went 0-2 against the University of St. Thomas at home on Feb. 22 to open league play and then the third game was rained out. Centenary responded with a road sweep over Ozarks before being swept by TLU last weekend.
Senior C/1B Abby Touchet (Shreveport, La.) and senior UT Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) are two of the conference's top hitters as each rank in the top 10 in batting average, OBP, home runs, total bases, and slugging percentage, and Rivero is also in the top 10 in hits and RBI.
Touchet is hitting .381 (.519 OBP/.690 slugging) with 16 hits, 10 runs scored, nine RBI, four doubles, and a team-high three home runs while Rivero is batting .400 (.453 OBP/.600 slugging) with a team-high 22 hits and team-leading 13 RBI. Junior SS/2B Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.) is third on the tam in hits (15) with four RBI and three doubles and is hitting .288 with a .327 OBP and .346 slugging %.
Junior P/UT Abigail Hodgson (Florence, Texas), freshman INF Kaitlynn Alello (Denham Springs, La.), junior C/IF Jaeden Thrasher (Forney, Texas) sophomore OF Noelle Sandmann (Huntsville, Texas), junior Laine Sullivan (Prairieville, La.), and junior UT Emma Crow (Krotz Springs, La.) each have five or more hits this season and Allelo is second on the team in doubles with three while she is tied with Sandmann, Sullivan, and freshman INF Libby Guidry (Iowa, La.) for the team lead in stolen bases with two each.
Senior Emma Shepherd (Athens, La.) is one of the league's top pitchers as she ranks in the top 10 in ERA, opponent batting average, innings pitched, and strikeouts. Shepherd is 2-3 with a team-low 1.44 ERA in nine appearances and two starts with just eight earned runs allowed in 39.0 Ip with 28 strikeouts. Junior P Riley Myers (Shreveport, La.) has a 2.63 ERA in three appearances and one start and senior P Anna Scarbrock (Alexandria, La.) is 3-2 with a 3.94 ERA in six appearances (five starts) and has the Ladies' two complete games.
