Shreveport – The Centenary softball team has been selected as Centenary Athletics' "Team of the Week" after the Ladies went 5-0 last week with a non-conference doubleheader sweep at home over LeTourneau and punctuated by a weekend road sweep in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play over the University of Dallas Crusaders.
The Ladies (14-13) took a break from league play on Tuesday and were swept by the nationally-ranked Belhaven University Blazers in a non-conference doubleheader at home but entered play riding a season-high eight game winning streak. Centenary, now 9-8 in conference play, started that eight-game winning streak with a three-game sweep of the Southwestern University Pirates in league play at home March 21-22. The Ladies' winning streak was their longest since March 16-24, 2019.
Senior P Anna Scarbrock (Alexandria, La.) was one of the catalysts for the Ladies' success last week and she was appropriately named the SCAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday after she did not allow an earned run in 14 innings as she tossed a pair of complete games against LeTourneau and Dallas. Scarbrock, who now has five CG's this season, allowed one unearned run and seven hits in the two starts with no walks and four strikeouts. She is 6-5 this season with a 3.27 ERA in 13 appearances and 10 starts. In 62.0 IP, she has struck out 20 batters while walking only seven.
Centenary will resume conference play at home this weekend versus Austin College (2-26, 2-16 SCAC). The Ladies were picked to finish seventh this season in the SCAC preseason coaches' poll this season and are currently sixth in the league standings.
The 2025 SCAC Softball Tournament, a double-elimination event, will be held May 2-4 on the campus of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. The Ladies have made eight-consecutive SCAC Tournament appearances.
