Softball Set To Face Southwestern At Home In SCAC Play
The Centenary softball team returns home this weekend to face the Southwestern University Pirates in a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series beginning on Friday with a single game set for 5 p.m. at the Centenary Softball Complex.

Shreveport– The Centenary softball team returns home this weekend to face the Southwestern University Pirates in a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series beginning on Friday with a single game set for 5 p.m. at the Centenary Softball Complex.

The series between the Ladies (6-11, 3-8 SCAC) and Pirates (12-10, 10-2 SCAC) will conclude on Saturday with a doubleheader at Noon and 2 p.m. Southwestern and Centenary played four times last season with the Pirates winning three of the four games, taking two of three during the regular season in Georgetown, Texas and then winning 9-3 in the SCAC Tournament in Seguin, Texas.
The Ladies were picked to finish seventh this season in the SCAC preseason coaches' poll this season and the Pirates were picked sixth. Centenary is currently eighth in the league standings while the Pirates are third.
Centenary looks to shake off a frustrating series at Concordia University last weekend in Austin, Texas as the Ladies were swept by scores of 7-5 and then 13-0 and 8-0 each in five innings. The Ladies have lost six in a row overall after being swept at home by the nationally-ranked Texas Lutheran Bulldogs March 7-8.
Centenary is hitting .259 as a team with a .346 on-base percentage and a .339 slugging percentage. The Ladies have scored 67 runs, recorded 120 hits, drawn 45 walks, and have 24 extra-base hits, six home runs, and 10 stolen bases. Centenary has a 4.86 team ERA with two complete games.
Senior C/1B Abby Touchet (Shreveport, La.) and senior UT Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) are two of the conference's top hitters as Touchet ranks in the top 10 in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging %, walks, HBP, total bases, and is tied for the league lead in home runs with three. Rivero is in the top 10 in home runs and slugging %.
Touchet is hitting a team-best .408 with a .540 OBP and a .673 slugging % and has 20 hits, 11 RBI, 11 walks, and has only struck out three times in 49 at-bats. Rivero is the team leader in hits (22) and RBI (15) and is hitting .393 with a .407 OBP and has a .536 slugging %.
Senior Emma Shepherd (Athens, La.) is one of the league's top pitchers as she ranks in the top 10 in ERA (2.74), opponent batting average (.249), innings pitched (46.0), and strikeouts (28). Shepherd is 2-3 in 12 appearances and three starts.
