Kerrville, Texas - The Centenary women's soccer team was blanked 2-0 by the Schreiner University Mountaineers on Friday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Mountaineer Soccer Field.
The Ladies (1-10-3, 0-4-1 SCAC) will face Trinity University on Sunday at Noon in San Antonio for their final road match of the regular season. Schreiner improved to 2-9-1 and 1-3-1 SCAC and won its first home match of the season to move to 1-4 at Mountaineer Field. Schreiner now leads the all-time series, 12-8-3, and has won three in a row over the Ladies.
Centenary junior GK Madison Ersoff (Shreveport, La.) played all 90 minutes on Friday and made three saves. Schreiner GK Audrey Rivera also went the distance and recorded one save. The Mountaineers finished with a 10-3 advantage in shots, took six corner kicks to two for the Ladies, and each team was whistled for three fouls.
Schreiner took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of the first half as Alexandra Schott scored with the assist going to Natalee Talley. Ashley Esparaza then scored an unassisted goal in the 39th minute to give the Mountaineers a 2-0 lead at halftime which they held for the remainder of the match to secure the win.
Trinity, the Ladies' opponent on Sunday, defeated St. Thomas 1-0 on the road Friday to improve to 8-4-2 and 5-0-0 SCAC.
The Ladies will face St. Thomas in their final home match of the regular season on Friday, Oct. 27 as they celebrate Senior Night at Mayo Field. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
