St. Charles, Mo. - The Centenary gymnastics team recorded its highest team score of the season on Sunday afternoon as the Ladies finished second in a tri-meet versus host Lindenwood University and Simpson College inside Hyland Arena.
The Ladies (1-4) earned a 187.950 to finish behind Lindenwood (194.825) and ahead of Simpson (186.075). Centenary's top event score of the meet was an impressive 47.875 on vault – its highest vault score of the season and also marks the Ladies' highest score in any event all season.
The Ladies also recorded season-best scores on bars (46.225) and floor (47.475) and their 46.375 on beam is their second-highest of the season, just behind a 46.725 set last weekend against the Greenville University Panthers on the road.
Sophomore Sophie Schmitz (Trophy Club, Texas) recorded the Ladies' best score of the meet with a season-high 9.725 to finish sixth on bars. Sophomore Olivia Stratmann (Houston, Texas) was the top finisher on vault with a season-high tying 9.65 to place seventh. Sophomore Amy Foret (Bedford, Texas) led the way on beam with a season-high 9.70 to place fourth, and the Ladies' top finisher on floor was senior Lacey Wedge (Belle Chasse, La.) with a season and career-high 9.70 to tie for ninth.
Lindenwood's Hannah Appleget won the All-Around with a 39.075, ahead of her teammate Jaly Jones (38.950) and Simpson's Bella Dix (37.250). Lindenwood's Gayla Griswold won the vault competition with a 9.85, Appleget won on bars (9.90), the Lions' Hannah Moon claimed a win on beam (9.75), and Griswold also won on floor (9.925) as Lindenwood swept the events.
VAULT:
Senior Kendall Huff (Riviera, Texas) finished eighth with a season-high 9.625, Wedge was 10th (9.60), senior Isabel Plaza (San Antonio, Texas) was 11th with a season-high and career-high tying 9.575, Foret finished 14th (9.425), and Schmitz tied for 16th place with a 9.40.
BEAM:
Senior Rylie Molina (Moss Bluff, La.) had the Ladies' second-best finish behind Foret with a 9.575 to finish sixth. Junior Mylia Vidtor (The Colony, Texas) finished eighth with a 9.35.
FLOOR:
Freshman Brooke Murdock (Garland, Texas) had the second-best finish on floor behind Wedge as she earned a season-high 9.55 to tie for 12th, freshman Olivia Williams (Cape Coral, Fla.) was 14th with a 9.475, Plaza finished 15th (9.40), and Huff was 16th with a season-high tying 9.35.
BARS:
Williams had the Ladies' second-best finish behind Schmitz on bars as she scored a 9.35 to finish eighth, sophomore Claire Flores (Oklahoma City, Okla.) was ninth with a 9.30, and junior Emma Lavelle (Mandeville, La.) finished 11th with a 9.15.
The Ladies return home next weekend for a very special weekend in the Gold Dome as Centenary holds its 60th anniversary celebration of the sport on campus and feature a pair of meets – the first on Friday, Feb. 9 against Alaska and Talladega at 7 p.m. and then on Sunday, Feb. 11 for a quad meet featuring the Ladies against Alaska, Greenville, and Talladega. The Feb. 9 meet will also be the annual Sylvia Keiter Memorial Meet and the entire weekend will be a welcome of all Centenary gymnastics' alumnae.
