Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: October 24 Edition

Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: October 24 Edition

WHAT. IS. UP. LADIES FANS!!

Good news, It’s Sophomore Sophie Schmitz here to give you another weekly Gym Talk. This week the Ladies have been putting in the work in and out of the gym as we were wrapping up midterms and getting ready for our first team intrasquad November 5th.

On Thursday for our weekly team meeting, we met with Debbie Bury, Director of Career Development and Internships. This was our second time meeting with her to recap on the budgets we all made for ourselves for the month that had passed. She gave us many insightful tips on how to be smart with our money as college students and how to break bad spending habits. Thank you Debbie for teaching the Ladies how to make good choices with our money and set financial goals for ourselves to set us up for the future!

The Ladies were joined by a recruit this weekend, and to welcome her to the area, a handful of us and the coaches joined her at Frank’s Pizza for a lovely evening dinner. We shared lots of memories and insightful stories about what we love most about Centenary!

It is that time of the year again where the Centenary Gymnastics team hosts our annual Walk Like MADD event. We honor former Centenary gymnast Sylvia Keiter who lost her life in a drunk driving accident. We host this event to promote safe driving and the future of No More Victims. This weekend the Ladies worked hard, handcrafting t-shirts for the first 150 attendees! You could be one of them and join us Friday November 3rd at 5pm on Jones Rice Field! See the Centenary Gymnastics Instagram for more details.

During our team practice on Sunday, we had some killer gymnastics going on! Our beam queens ran through a practice intrasquad and made a whopping 4/5 routines. We love to see a wide variety in the mix as we had a freshman, sophomore, two juniors, and a senior in the lineup this Sunday. Go Ladies! The good work continues over to bars as we have lots of people starting to put new routines together with new releases and new skills. Shoutout Roxy Myers for staying consistent with her jaegers, and Lacey Wedge for putting her toe on toe off in front of her overshoot! We also have some new floor routines that were shown off this weekend by Claire Flores and myself, choreographed by our amazing volunteer assistant coach, Ashley Koepnick. Thank you Ashley! One last shoutout to Amy Foret for working hard on coming back after surgery. After about 5 months post-surgery, she put her back handspring back on the beam and started doing giants and kip cast handstands on bars this weekend! Way to go Amy! The ladies are making great progress as we get closer to season, and we love to see it!

Thanks for taking some time and tuning in to what the Ladies were up to last week. Get ready to hear my fellow classmate Claire Flores’s Gym Talk next week!

Catch y’all on the flippity flip! ;)
