Ladies Fall to UT Tyler, 97-47

TYLER, Texas - Centenary (0-5) lost to UT Tyler (2-2) 97-47 Wednesday night, November 29, in women's basketball in Tyler, Texas.

A trio of freshmen led the Ladies in scoring as Haylee Washington, Darelzray Bellard, and Kayla King all scored eight points. King and sophomore Deunya Small each grabbed seven boards.

Down 69-26 late in the third, the Ladies held UT Tyler to just a free throw for the next three minutes. Washington started the spurt with a layup, followed by the Patriots free throw. Junior Savanah Doty hit a jumper, freshman Ethany Cosby split from the line and King added a pair of free throws to end the third.

Centenary held UT Tyler scoreless for the first minute of the fourth, and Cosby made a layup to cut the deficit to 70-35 with 9:05 left in the game.

The Ladies had 27 miscues in the game that led to 37 points for the Patriots. UT Tyler also took advantage of a 46-22 edge in bench scoring.

UT Tyler scored the contest's first eight points and led 15-2 at the first media timeout. Demi Cumby made a fastbreak layup off a steal and Alexus Betrand made a pair of threes. Washington hit a jumper for the Ladies' first points. However, Samantha Odom added a layup, Alex Kochner hit a three, and Brittany Johnson made a layup off a steal to push the home team's lead to 15-2 less than four minutes into the game.

Kochner led the Patriots with 20 points and shot 8-for-11 from the field, hitting all four shots from beyond the arc. Cumby added 16 points and four steals, while Carissa Spiker and Shadazia Birchette came off the bench for 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Centenary returns to action Friday night, December 1, when it hosts future Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference member Johnson & Wales. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
