Huge Second Half Comeback by Ladies Falls Short to Dallas, 60-55

IRVING, Texas - The Ladies charged back from a 12-point, second half deficit to take a one-point lead late, but the Crusaders scored the final six points of the game as Centenary (3-11, 1-3 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Dallas (7-8, 1-3 SCAC) 60-55 Friday night, January 12.

Down 52-45 in the fourth quarter, a 10-2 run gave Centenary the lead with three minutes left. Junior Jasmine Morris and freshman Ethany Cosby hit jumpers before Celsi Carraway made a layup for Dallas. Morris split from the line, and freshman Darelzray Bellard made a jumper to bring the game back to a single possession with 3:31 left. Morris then grabbed a steal and made the fastbreak layup while being fouled. She completed the three-point play to give Centenary the one-point advantage.

Morris led Centenary with 16 points.

With the Ladies trailing 38-26 early in the third, 14 unanswered in a three-minute span gave the Ladies the lead. Morris hit 3-of-4 from the line and added a layup to pull Centenary within seven. Junior Savanah Doty added a pair of threes around a split trip to the charity stripe by Bellard to tie the game. Two from the line from freshman Ashley Strawder gave the Maroon and White a 40-38 lead with 3:12 left in the third.

Doty finished 4-for-12 from behind the arc, and made both free throws, to finish with 14 points. However, Centenary could not overcome its second-worst shooting performance of the season (26.6 percent, 17-for-64).

After Centenary took a slim 55-54 lead with less than three minutes left, Dallas scored the last six points of the game to claim the win. Michelle DeCoud made a layup to put Dallas back in the lead. The Crusaders made a pair of baskets after Centenary misses to extend the lead to five with 1:04 remaining. Neither team scored the rest of the way.

DeCoud led the home team with 19 points and 16 rebounds.

Centenary returns to action Sunday afternoon, January 14, when it takes on Colorado College. Game time in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is set for 3 p.m.
