The Opening Tip

  • Centenary (8-17) travels to Colorado College (9-16) to kick off the 2018 SCAC Women's Basketball Tournament.
  • The Ladies have won 4-of-5 against the Tigers but lost earlier this season in Colorado.
  • Centenary is 2-9 in road games this season.
  • After a four-game stretch with no more than 34 rebounds, the Ladies are averaging 45 boards in the last five games.
  • Junior Savanah Doty is one block away from 100 rejections for her career. She would be just the third Centenary basketball player (and first guard) in program history to reach that mark.

Last Time against Colorado College

After falling behind by eight points in the first quarter, the Ladies took the lead near the end of the first half and never looked back as Centenary won 67-55 win over Colorado College on senior day February 3, 2018.

A trio of Ladies reached double-figures, led by Savanah Doty's 14 points. Jasmine Morris added 13, while Bre Frierson came off the bench for 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting.

Jordan Meltzer came off the bench with 13 points for the Tigers.

At the time, it was Centenary's fourth-straight win - all of which were by double-digits. It also helped the Ladies finish with a winning conference record at home (4-3).

Series with Colorado College

The Ladies will be looking to even the all-time series with Colorado College, as the Tigers hold a 7-6 advantage. However, Centenary is only 2-5 in Colorado.

The Ladies are 4-1 against the Tigers in the last four meetings, including a 60-52 triumph in Colorado for the 2016-17 season.

Earlier this season in Colorado Springs, the Tigers overcame a 35-33 halftime deficit for a 63-59 win. Savanah Doty led Centenary with 12, while Bre Frierson added 11. Casey Torbet led Colorado College with 17 points.

Get That Out of Here

A Centenary player is accustomed to being among the national leaders in blocks per game since the 2014-15 season, beginning with now-assistant coach Briana Edwards. Finishing her Ladies career with a school record 206 blocks, she finished her junior year 50th and her senior season 16th in the country in blocks per game.

However, Edwards played as a forward. The player who took the torch from here is none other than a 5-8 guard, Savanah Doty. Leading the SCAC in blocks among guards the past two seasons, she sits 80th in the country in 2017-18 with 1.8 blocks per game. She sits third in the country among guards in rejections, and the two players ahead of her both have three inches on Doty.

Earlier this season against Schreiner on January 28, she tied Edwards for the most blocks by a Centenary player in a single game with seven. It was the 27th-most overall and the second-most by a guard in NCAA Division III this season.
