Ladies Complete Non-Conference Play with 77-60 Win Against Dallas Christian

DALLAS - The Ladies trailed early in the third quarter, but 10 unanswered put the Maroon and White in the lead for good as Centenary (6-14) downed Dallas Christian (6-10) 77-60 in the final non-conference regular season game for the Ladies Tuesday night, January 30, in Dallas.

Centenary led 37-30 at the break, but Dallas Christian used a 10-2 run to begin the third and took its final lead of the game. A junior Savanah Doty three put the Ladies back in the lead and ignited a 10-0 spurt. After Doty's bucket, freshman Darelzray Bellard hit a jumper and sophomore Deunya Small split from the line. Small then made a pair of layups off of offensive boards to cap the run.

Up 10 with a minute and a half left in the game, the Ladies scored the final seven points of the contest. Freshman Ethany Cosby made a pair from the charity stripe before taking a defensive rebound coast-to-coast for the layup. Senior Jessica Bruti put an exclamation point on the game with a three - finishing 4-for-7 from distance off the bench and scoring a season high 12 points.

Centenary made a season high nine threes for the game, including four from Doty. She led Centenary with 14 points, while Cosby came off the bench for 12. Bellard chipped in 11 as Centenary outscored Dallas Christian 46-0 in bench scoring.

After trailing at the half, Dallas Christian used a 10-2 run to wrestle back the lead early in the third quarter. Chrystal Ngawuchu made back-to-back layups to cut the lead to a single possession, but sophomore Kayla King made a basket to push the Ladies advantage back to five. Four-straight free throws and a layup by Ngawuchu gave Dallas Christian a 40-39 lead, its final of the contest.

Ngawuchu led all scorers with 22 points, capping the double-double with 11 rebounds. Dezeray Wesly also finished with the double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 boards.

Centenary begins the final home weekend of the regular season Friday, February 2, when it takes on Dallas. Tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
