Ladies Ready for Holiday Inn Express and Suites Holiday Classic

ATLANTA - The Centenary Ladies (2-6) wrap up pre-conference play this week when it travels to Atlanta to take part in the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Holiday Classic Monday and Tuesday, December 18-19. The Ladies take on host Oglethorpe Monday night at 5 p.m. (6 p.m. in Atlanta) before facing Birmingham-Southern Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. (2 p.m. in Atlanta).

Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic: Live Stats and Live Video

  • The Centenary Ladies (2-6) basketball team wraps up pre-conference play this week at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Classic in Atlanta.
  • In its previous game, Centenary evened its home record to 2-2, using season highs in points (78), assists (16) and shooting percentage (43.5, 27-for-62) in a 78-63 win against Millsaps.
  • Against the Majors, sophomore Deunya Small scored a career high 15 points and Jasmine Morris recorded the first Ladies double-double of the season.
  • It will be the first ever meeting between host Oglethorpe and the Ladies, while Centenary is meeting Birmingham-Southern for the 10th time.

Last Time Against Birmingham-Southern

The Ladies rallied from a 44-25, halftime deficit to tie the game in the final minute, but two free throws with four seconds left lifted Birmingham-Southern to a 79-77 win December 30, 2012, in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dionecia Warr, the last player to tally more than 30 points in a game, scored 31 points while Vashni Sharp-Moore added the double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds.

The Series with the Oglethorpe

This is the first meeting between the Stormy Petrels and Ladies in basketball.

The Series with the Birmingham-Southern

This will be the 10th meeting between Birmingham-Southern and Centenary, with the Panthers holding a 2-7 edge in the all-time series. The teams first met on January 29, 2001, with Birmingham-Southern winning 72-57 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Both Ladies win came by three points in the Gold Dome. This will be the first time these two teams met at a neutral site.

Rebounding the Freshman Way

Haylee Washington sits seventh overall and first among freshman in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with 8.1 rebounds per game. Sophomore Deunya Small finished fifth overall and led among freshman in that category for the SCAC last season.

Washington has grabbed at least six rebounds in 6-of-8 games this season, including a season high 12 against Hendrix on November 19. She finished one point and rebound short of her first collegiate double-double against Johnson and Wales December 1.

Race to 1,000

Junior Jasmine Morris is trying to become just the seventh Ladies basketball player to reach 1,000 career points. She has 905 in 59 career games played in her quest to become only the second Centenary player to reach this milestone in her junior season. Alexis Pettway - the Centenary career points leader with 1,416 points - is the fastest player in Ladies history to 1,000 points, accomplishing this feat in her 82nd game her junior season.
