Maggie Pitcher of Ladies Soccer Named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week

Centenary senior goalkeeper Maggie Pitcher (San Antonio, Texas) has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, February 28th.

Pitcher has helped the Ladies stay perfect through four games for the third consecutive season, posting three shutouts in net and has recorded 16 saves, including five in the win over St. Thomas last Friday to secure three important points in the standings to open league play for the Maroon and White. Pitcher currently leads the SCAC with 16 saves and has an impressive .941 save percentage to start the year. She played all 90 minutes last Friday versus the Celts and recorded the ninth shutout of her career which ties her for the most career shutouts in the division III era (2012-present).

The Ladies (4-0) recorded their third-straight shutout as they have only allowed one goal all season. Centenary has now outscored the opposition, 12-1, and the Ladies have won 20 of their last 23 matches dating back to the beginning of last season and are 10-2 in their last 12 road matches.

Ten different Ladies have scored goals so far this season, led by sophomore forward Avery Gilbert (League City, Texas) with three.

The Ladies will now return home for four-straight matches beginning with their first home conference match against Austin College on March 6 at 6 p.m. Centenary then plays host to Mississippi University for Women on March 9 at 5 p.m. The Maroon and White then return to SCAC play as they square off with the University of Dallas (March 13) at 3:30 p.m. and Schreiner (March 20) at 2 p.m. in consecutive weeks at home.
