Women's Soccer Falls in Double OT Heartbreaker to Trinity on Senior Day

Shreveport - The Centenary women's soccer team lost a double-overtime heartbreaker to the Trinity Tigers in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Senior Day Saturday at Mayo Field as the visiting Tigers scored with just seven seconds remaining in the second OT period.

With the final seconds of the match ticking away, the Ladies (8-3, 4-3 SCAC) kicked the ball out of bounds close to their goal and the Tigers' Katy Ward threw the ball in to teammate Bailey Meyer and Meyer quickly made a move to her left and snuck the ball into the far left corner of the net to secure the stunning win just seconds away from a scoreless draw as the home crowd sat in stunned silence. Trinity remained undefeated at 7-0 (7-0 SCAC).

The Ladies, despite the bitter defeat, earned the No. 4 seed in next weekend's SCAC Women's Soccer Championship and will host No. 5 seed Texas Lutheran (3-5-1, 3-3-1 SCAC) next Saturday, April 17 at 3 p.m. in a quarterfinal contest. Trinity earned the top seed and will host Schreiner next Saturday.

Centenary and TLU will meet for the second time this season after the Ladies blanked the Bulldogs, 2-0 on March 27 on the road to set a division III era (2011-present) single-season record for shutouts in a season with seven. The Ladies posted shutouts in seven of their 11 games this season.

Centenary finishes the regular season allowing just four goals and outscoring its opponents, 20-4. The Ladies are 24-6 in their last 30 matches dating to the beginning of last season and are an impressive 10-5 in their last 15 conference matches. Centenary finishes 5-2 at home this season and is 13-3 at Mayo Field over the last two seasons.

Ladies' senior goalkeeper Maggie Pitcher (San Antonio, Texas) played another great game on Saturday and was especially spectacular in the first half. Pitcher, one of the top goalkeepers in the conference and country this season and one of the most decorated players in the division III era in program history, earned nine saves on Saturday with three coming in the first half.

Trinity took 30 total shots on Saturday while limiting the Ladies to just five. The Tigers also had nine corner kicks, keeping Pitcher and the Ladies' defense on their toes all afternoon. Trinity GK Joey Finley picked up her eighth win as she pitched a shutout and made two saves.

The Ladies honored their three seniors in a postgame ceremony on Saturday; Pitcher, Pamela Fonseca (Houston, Texas, and MF Piper Beilke (Waterbury, Vt.).
