Maggie Pitcher Named SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Ladies' senior goalkeeper Maggie Pitcher (San Antonio, Texas) has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, March 28th.
Lawrenceville, Ga. - Ladies' senior goalkeeper Maggie Pitcher (San Antonio, Texas) has been named the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, March 28th.
She earned the honor for the second time this season after previously being named POTW on March 1 and she becomes the only player in the conference this season on the defensive side of the ball to earn the weekly honor twice. Pitcher posted her seventh shutout of the season and 13th of her career in last Saturday's 2-0 victory over Texas Lutheran in Seguin. She played all 90 minutes and recorded five saves.
Pitcher, who leads the SCAC in shutouts, currently ranks second in the league in goals against average (0.22), second in save percentage with a stellar .944, and is third in saves with 34. She entered this past weekend's play tied for third for most shutouts in the country in division III and was also 19th in GAA, 20th in save percentage, and tied for 38th in saves.
Centenary's 2-0 win on Saturday set a division III era (2011-present) single-season record for shutouts in a season with its seventh in nine games this season.
The Ladies (8-1, 4-1 SCAC) are 24-4 in their last 28 matches overall dating back to the beginning of last season and have won 10 of their last 13 conference matches. Centenary has now posted shutouts over seven of its nine opponents this season and have outscored the opposition 20-2.
Centenary remains on the road this weekend as the Maroon and White face Southwestern in Georgetown, Texas on Saturday, April 3 in a match set for 1 p.m. The Ladies then close the regular season at home versus Trinity on Senior Day at 3 p.m. at Mayo Field.
