Women's Soccer Falls For First Time This Season, 1-0 at Home to Dallas

Shreveport – The Centenary women's soccer team fell for the first this season as the Ladies lost a tough 1-0 match to the University of Dallas Crusaders in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Mayo Field.

The Ladies (6-1, 2-1 SCAC) had their six-game winning streak snapped and lost for just the second time in their last 14 home matches and suffered just their fourth loss in 16 matches dating back to the beginning of last season. Dallas improved to 2-1 on the season.

The Crusaders became just the second team all season to score on the Ladies as Centenary had pitched shutouts against five of its previous six opponents entering Saturday's play. The Ladies defeated LeTourneau, 2-1, on Jan. 30 and then blanked their next five opponents. Centenary has still outscored the opposition 16-2 this season and the Maroon and White are only two shutouts away from the division III era (2011-present) single season record of seven.

After a scoreless first half, the Crusaders' Maddie Rodriguez sent a shot past Ladies' senior goalkeeper Maggie Pitcher (San Antonio, Texas) for a 1-0 lead with the assist going to Courtney Bokanyi just three minutes into the second half. Centenary did not have many good scoring chances in the game, nor did Dallas, but the Crusaders made the most of their chance early in the second half.

The Ladies finished with a slight edge (13-11) in shots. Pitcher and Dallas GK Macey Henderson each recorded five saves. Centenary was whistled for 13 fouls and Dallas nine and the Ladies took four corner kicks while Dallas took two.

The Ladies remain at home next weekend as they face Schreiner in another SCAC match on Saturday, March 20 at 2 p.m.
