The Ladies (8-2, 4-2 SCAC) are currently tied for third in the conference standings with Dallas while Trinity (6-0, 6-0 SCAC) holds the top spot. Centenary is coming off a rare loss as the Ladies fell, 1-0, to Southwestern on the road last Saturday. The Maroon and White lost for just the second time all season and allowed only their third goal this season. Centenary is still a stellar 24-5 in their last 29 matches overall dating back to the beginning of last season and has won 10 of its last 14 conference matches. The Ladies are 5-1 at home this season and 13-2 at the friendly confines of Mayo Field since the beginning of last season. Centenary has secured on of the league's top four seeds and will host a quarterfinal match in next weekend's 2021 SCAC Women's Soccer Championship.
Centenary has now posted shutouts over seven of its 10 opponents this season and have outscored the opposition 20-3. The Ladies blanked the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs, 2-0 on March 27 on the road to set a division III era (2011-present) single-season record for shutouts in a season with seven. The Ladies, who lead the conference in wins, currently rank second in the league in assists, goals, points, and shots. Centenary also leads the SCAC in shutouts and fewest goals allowed.
Ladies' senior goalkeeper Maggie Pitcher (San Antonio, Texas) has had a superb season in goal as she ranks second in goals against average (0.30), third in save percentage (.927), third in saves (38), and first in shutouts (7). Pitcher is tied for second in the country in division III in shutouts and ranks in the top 32 in GAA, save percentage, and saves. She has twice been named the SCAC Defensive Player of the Week as she is the only defensive player in the conference to earn the honor more than once this season. Pitcher owns the record for shutouts in a season and in a career in the division III era (13).
Junior MF Gabby McDonald (Pasadena, Texas) is tied for third in the conference in goals (4), third in points (10), and is tied for third in assists (2). McDonald also leads the conference in shots. Sophomore forward Sydney Bascomb (Mesquite, Texas) is currently second in the league in shots, tied for fifth in goals (3), tied for third in assists (2), and tied for fourth in points (8). Fellow sophomore Avery Gilbert (League City, Texas) is also ranked in the top half of several categories in the conference as she is tied for third in assists with Bascomb and McDonald, tied for fifth in goals, tied for fourth in points, and is tied for 10th in shots. She has three goals, two assists, and eight points this season.
Senior MF Pamela Fonseca (Houston, Texas) and Sophomore MF Celeste Muniz (Denton, Texas) are tied for eighth in the conference in goals with two each and Fonseca is also tied for 10th in shots. Eleven different players have scored goals for the Ladies this season, five players have scored at least two or more goals, and five freshmen have found the net.
The Ladies will honor their three seniors in a postgame ceremony on Saturday. They are: Fonseca, Pitcher, and MF Piper Beilke (Waterbury, Vt.).
