Women's Soccer Suffers Rare Loss; Falls 1-0 at Southwestern on Saturday

Georgetown, Texas - The Centenary women's soccer team lost 1-0 to the Southwestern Pirates in its final road match of the season on Saturday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Varsity Field.

The Ladies (8-2, 4-2 SCAC) lost for just the second time all season and allowed only their third goal this season. Southwestern improved to 4-1 overall (4-1 SCAC) with the win. Centenary is still a stellar 24-5 in their last 29 matches overall dating back to the beginning of last season and have won 10 of their last 14 conference matches.

Southwestern's Samiah Varnell found the net in the 35th minute of the first half for the 1-0 lead off an assist from Maya Fuller. Ladies' senior goalkeeper Maggie Pitcher (San Antonio, Texas) played all 90 minutes and made four saves. The Pirates held a 10-6 advantage in shots and the teams combined for seven corner kicks, four for the Ladies and three for Southwestern. Pirates' GK Johnna Campbell earned the win in goal with four saves in her 90 minutes of action.

Centenary has posted shutouts over seven of its 10 opponents this season and have outscored the opposition 20-3. The Ladies' only losses have been by the score of 1-0.

Centenary closes the regular season at home versus Trinity on Saturday, April 10 for Senior Day at 3 p.m. at Mayo Field.
