Ladies Soccer Places Program-Record Eleven Players On All-SCAC Team

Lawrenceville, Ga. – The Centenary women's soccer team had a program-record eleven players earn All-SCAC honors on Wednesday as the 2020-21 All- Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer team was announced by the league office.

Junior MF Gabby McDonald (Pasadena, Texas) earned First team recognition, sophomores Sydney Bascomb (Mesquite, Texas) and Yosi Bouslog (Friendswood, Texas) were named to the second team, six Ladies earned Honorable Mention recognition, and three ladies were named to the All-Freshman Team.

The eleven all-conference selections is an all-time program record (1992-present) for both division I and division III. The previous record in the D1 era was six and four in the division III era (2012-present). Forward Daisy Acosta (Deer Park, Texas), D Alexa Hinojosa (Pasadena, Texas), and MF Cynthia Williams (Bossier City, La.) each earned a place on the SCAC All-Freshman Team and Hinojosa earned Honorable Mention honors.

Hinojosa was joined by five others; senior F Pamela Fonseca (Houston, Texas), sophomore MF Avery Gilbert (League City, Texas), junior D Allie Moore (Santa Fe, Texas), sophomore MF Celeste Muniz (Denton, Texas), and senior GK Maggie Pitcher (San Antonio, Texas).

The Ladies finished their season at 8-4 overall and 4-3 in SCAC play. They earned the No. 4 seed in the SCAC Championship and lost at home in the quarterfinals to No. 5 seed Texas Lutheran by a score of 1-0. Centenary posted another superb season as they set a division III era (2011-present) single-season record for shutouts in a season with seven and finished the regular season allowing just five goals and outscoring their opponents, 20-5. Centenary is 24-7 in its last 31 matches over the last two seasons, 10-6 in its last 16 conference matches, and finished the season 5-3 at home and the Maroon and White are 13-4 at Mayo Field over the last two seasons.

McDonald is the seventh Ladies player to be named First Team All-SCAC as she finished the season ranked fifth in the league in goals (3), points (10), tied for fourth in assists (2), and tied for third in shots (33). She earned All-SCAC honors for the first time in her career.

Bascomb had two game-winning goals this season, which ranked second in the conference, was tied for fourth in assists with two, and tied for sixth in goals with three. She followed up a fantastic rookie season in which she also scored three goals and had six assists. Bouslog earned all-conference honors for the second-straight season after being named to the Honorable Mention team as a freshman. She scored her first-career goal this season in a 3-0 win at St. Thomas.

Pitcher, one of the top goalkeepers in the conference and country this season, finished her career as one of the most decorated players in the division III era in program history. She finished the season first in the conference in shutouts (6), second in both goals against average (0.35) and save percentage (.922). She also ranked fourth in saves (47) and seventh in saves per game (4.27).

Pitcher is tied for 43rd in the nation in division III in saves, 31st in goals against average, 23rd in save percentage, and tied for eighth in shutouts. Pitcher was named the SCAC Defensive Player of the Week three times in her career and twice this season as she was the only defensive player in the SCAC to earn the honor twice.

Gilbert tied for fourth in assists (2) and tied for sixth in goals (3) and points (8) to earn all-conference honors for the first time in her career. Fonseca, Muniz, and Moore each also earned All-SCAC recognition for the first time in their careers. Fonseca and Muniz tied for eighth in the conference in goals with two each and Fonseca also tied for second in game-winning goals as both of her scores this season were GW's for the Ladies this season. Moore started all 12 of the Ladies' games and is as steady and tough as any player in the conference.

Hinojosa made an immediate impact this season as a rookie to earn Honorable Mention honors and a place on the All-freshman Team. She started all 12 games and scored one goal. Acosta and Williams each scored a goal and Acosta added an assist for a total of three points. Williams' career got off to a memorable start as she scored the game-winning goal in the Ladies' season-opening 2-1 win over LeTorneau.

Eleven different players scored goals for the Ladies this season, five players scored at least two or more goals, and five freshmen found the net. Centenary finished the regular season ranked second in the league in assists, goals, points, and shots.
