Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: November 7 Edition

Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: November 7 Edition

Hi Lady’s fans! Thanks for coming back to tune in for this week’s Gym Talk. Last week was a big one, with the Spooktacular, Homecoming, Walk like MADD AND our very first intrasquad of the season!

In case you missed out on the Centenary Athletics Spooktacular, the gymnasts, (in my totally unbiased opinion) probably had the best booth. Our theme was 80’s workout attire, and if you participated in the step aerobics or showed us your mad jump roping skills you could earn a nice handful of candy.

Another major event we had last week was our annual Walk like MADD in honor of former Centenary gymnast Sylvia Keiter and her legacy. Walk Like MADD (Mothers Against Driving Drunk) is an organization that promotes and works for a future of no more victims of driving while under the influence. The turnout on Friday was awesome and it was incredible to see such a long line of people walking for a cause.

The final big event we had going on last week was this past Sunday, as we locked in and made some new preparations for the season at our first intrasquad. The Ladies are in a great spot for this point in preseason, and we have a solid lineup of girls on each event with sturdy routines. With four weeks until our next intrasquad, I am feeling confident in the Ladies ability to have a killer season.

We started off great on vault! Our lineup for this intrasquad consisted of two yurchenko tuck fulls, a tsuk lay, a full-on tuck off, a half-on front off, two front handspring tucks and a ginormous front handspring front pike. We have some powerful vault shakers that are ready to shake it up for the season.

Our bar lineup is also filled with some serious bar stars, with everyone getting consistent with their major releases and some phenomenal routines. Just a few highlights from Sophie Schmitz with an absolutely incredible hit routine. She had a beautiful jaeger followed by an overshoot to hand and ended with a crisp blind full to double. Along with Sophie, Olivia Stratmann is putting up routines that are season ready with her Higgins to jaeger. We also had sophomore Claire Flores getting back at it with a caught Maloney on Sunday!

The beam queens never fail to impress, with freshman Brooke Murdock’s gainer handspring tuck series and her front tuck looking consistent, and junior Emma Lavelle’s hard work on beam really shows off when she is up there executing her routine.

Our floor girls rounded out the evening. We have some real power houses this season, and it is going to be so exciting to see some of our incredible performances come meet season. Especially when we have fun routines like freshman Olivia Williams and senior

Kendall Huff, and some dramatic routines from Emma Lavelle and Sophie Schmitz that will be a real treat to get to watch this season!

That’s all for the gym talk this week, but be sure to check back in next week for a new Gym Talk with sophomore Amy Foret!
