Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: December 28 Edition

Helloooo, Ladies Fans!

It’s Freshman, Hayden Cagle, here with your weekly gym talk. This week's Gym Talk is going to be a bit different, as I’m going to share a little highlight reel of my first semester as a college student and Centenary Lady gymnast.

First and foremost, I’d like to start off by formally announcing that all three freshmen have successfully survived our first semester of college! As freshman, one of the classes we got to take this semester was a writing class known as Credo. I had the amazing opportunity to take Credo Honors with the marvelous Dr. J.P. This semester with Dr. J.P. was filled with dozens of engrossing readings, including Aimee Nezhukumatathil’s beautiful novel of short stories “World of Wonders” with featured essays in praise of the whimsy of the natural world. Along with the readings, as a class we got to explore several different styles of writing like process analysis, literacy narratives, definition essays, and my personal favorite creative nonfiction. Although I enjoyed Credo, as a chemistry major and a STEM girly at heart, I devoted the majority of my semester diving into the world of chemistry. I got to do so many incredible labs like understanding how active ingredients of sunscreens protect one from the sun and which carbon dioxide absorbers are most effective on space missions. Outside of the classroom, I could only be found in two places: buried in the stacks of McGale library or taking a much-needed nap in my bed. Although studying can be pretty tiring, overall, I truly enjoyed my first semester of college classes.

Academics aside, my first semester as a Centenary Lady was nothing short of incredible! Coming into the environment of college gymnastics has completely shifted my mindset of the sport. Instead of competing as an individual, we work together as a team. There’s nothing quite like being on a team with so many driven women who are committed to each other and our growth as a squad. Practices in Jill’s are always filled with energy and positive vibes. I am so thankful to be a part of the Lady's Gymnastics team because I get to do the sport that I love with people I love. With that being said, I can’t wait for my first collegiate season, and I hope to see y’all in the dome!

Happy Holidays Ladies Fans, and thanks for tuning in!
