Shreveport – The Centenary lacrosse program has announced its 2023 season schedule, as the Gents will open on the road at Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. on Wednesday, Feb. 8 in a non-conference contest set for 7 p.m.
The Gents will compete in the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) for the second season and will play six conference contests and six non-conference games.
The Gents' home opener will be on Saturday, Feb. 11 against Cornell College at 11 a.m. and then a week later they will remain home to face Earlham College at 4 p.m. Centenary will then hit the road for a pair of games at Huntingdon College (Feb. 24 at 7 PM) and LaGrange College (Feb. 26 at Noon).
The Gents will play a pair of games in March, both at home – versus Hanover College on Wednesday, March 1 at 7 PM and Spalding University on Thursday, March 16 at 7 PM.
Centenary will play its final five games of the season on the road, beginning on Saturday, April 1 at Anderson University (Ind.) and will then face Mount St. Joseph University on Sunday, April 2 at Noon. The Maroon and White will then travel to Colorado for a pair of games- Friday, April 7 for a neutral site contest against against Whittier College at 3 PM and then Sunday, April 9 at Colorado College at 1 PM. The Gents then finish the regular season at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas on Saturday, April 15 at 1 PM.
Billy LeClair will lead the Gents this season after he was named head coach in September and enters his third season with the Gents in 2023. LeClair was promoted to Associate Head Coach in June, 2021 and helped lead the Maroon and White to a 4-7 season in 2022 which was punctuated with a dominant 17-3 non-conference victory over the Warren Wilson College Owls on April 15 as the Gents finished with four wins in the final five games.
Centenary finished 4-1 on the road last season and after recording a 16-12 win over the Huntingdon College Hawks on April 13 in Montgomery, Ala., they wasted no time in establishing a new season high in goals in the season finale, scoring a whopping 33 goals in the final two games.
