Lacrosse Selected As "Team of the Week"

Shreveport- The Centenary lacrosse team has been selected as Centenary Athletics' "Team of the Week".

The Gents recorded an impressive 16-10 victory over the Mount. St. Joseph University Lions on Sunday afternoon at Schueler Field. The Maroon and White (2-7) rebounded from uncharacteristic offensive performance on Saturday at Anderson University in which they only scored two goals in a 9-2 loss.

Sophomore A G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas) led the Gents with four goals and was one of five Centenary players to score at least two goals. Senior John Mark Waniewski (Bossier City, La.) and freshman A Liam Johns (Shreveport, La.) each scored three and sophomore A Braxton Parchman (Shreveport, La.) and senior M/A Kyle Comi (Allen, Texas) each scored two.

Spivey added a game-high three assists and Komi and Parchman each had two assists. Senior A/MF Mark Temple (Houston, Texas) and freshman MF Dominic Ogier (St. Louis, Mo.) each scored a goal. Freshman FO Chris Masterson (Zachary, La.) led the Gents in ground balls with seven and Centenary got four each from Comi and senior D Ethan Little (Tyler, Texas). Freshman MF Seven Davillier (Shreveport, La.) and junior D Matthew Lulich (New Orleans, La.) each had three GB's. Temple and Little each had three caused turnovers as the Maroon and White finished with nine.

Sophomore GK Alex Nicks-Davis (Nashville, Tenn.) went the distance in goal to pick up the win and made 13 saves. Centenary finished with a 31-27 edge in ground balls and took 41 shots to Mt. St. Joseph's 35. Parchman scored an unassisted goal six minutes into the game for a 1-0 Centenary lead and the Gents would score four more times in the period and led 5-1 at the end of the first 15 minutes. The Gents edged the Lions 3-2 in the second period to take an 8-3 halftime lead. Mt. St. Joseph outscored Centenary 4-3 in the third quarter, but the Gents responded with another five goals in the fourth and held the Lions to three to seal the win.

The 16 goals are second only to the 23 that the Gents scored in their win over Spalding University on March 17, a 23-2 Senior Day win at Mayo Field. Centenary also scored double-digit goals a day later in its final home game of the season, a 14-12 loss to Earlham College.

Waniewski now has a team-high 20 goals, Spivey is just behind him with 19, and Comi has scored 14. Parchman now has nine and is likely to soon join the double-digit club. Johns now has a team-best 10 assists, Spivey has eight, and Comi seven.

The Gents will rest up and hit the road again next weekend as they travel to Colorado for a pair of games- Friday, April 7 for a neutral site contest against Whittier College and then Sunday, April 9 at Colorado College with both games taking place in Colorado Springs, Colo.
