Gents Fall To Whittier College 20-5 On Friday

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Centenary lacrosse team fell 20-5 to the Whittier College Poets on Friday afternoon in a non-conference neutral-site contest at Washburn Field on the campus of Colorado College.

The Gents (2-8) will complete the weekend with a Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference game against the host Colorado College Tigers on Sunday at 1 p.m. (11 a.m. MST). Colorado College (4-6) has won two games in a row and is 3-4 on its home field so far this season. The Tigers and Poets (2-8) will face off on Saturday. Centenary s 2-2 in HCLC play so far this season.

Sophomore A G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas) scored two of the Gents' five goals on Friday as he now has 21 this season, tying senior John Mark Waniewski (Bossier City, La.) for the team lead after Waniewski scored one on Friday. Senior M/A Kyle Comi (Allen, Texas) added a goal and an assist and now has 15 goals and eight assists this season. Sophomore A Braxton Parchman (Shreveport, La.) scored the fifth goal and was assisted by senior D Chris Dant (Bossier City, La.).

Sophomore GK Alex Nicks-Davis (Nashville, Tenn.) played all 60 minutes and made 19 saves. The Poets used a pair of goalies as Jayden Warlum started and played the first 47:40 and made three saves to pick up the win. Ryan Rosselli played the final 12:20 and did not record a save.

Whittier finished with 52 shots to 13 for the Gents. The Gents turned the ball over 42 times and the Poets 28. Whittier won 20-29 face offs and had 35 ground balls while Centenary had 26. The Gents finished 18-36 on clears and the Poets went 18-22. Mason Leet led the Poets with a game-high seven goals, Kalwin Iha scored three, and Nathan Palumbo added two. Eight players scored one goal each for the Poets. Connor Hoemann and Owen Wallace each had two assists.

The Poets led 5-1 after the first quarter and 8-2 at halftime. They then outscored the Gents 12-3 in the second half including 9-1 in the third period to secure the win.
