Georgetown, Texas - The Centenary lacrosse team fell 29-3 to the Southwestern University Pirates in a Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference contest on Saturday in the Gents' final game of the season at Varsity Field.
Centenary finishes its 2023 season at 2-10 overall and 0-2 in HCLC play while Southwestern improved to 8-8 and 2-2 in league play. The Pirates snapped their three-game losing streak and improved to 7-4 this season at home with Saturday's Senior Day win.
The Gents finished the season with 95 goals, an average of 7.9 per game, and 41 assists. Centenary had five players score 10+ goals each this season led by 22 from sophomore A G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas). Senior John Mark Waniewski (Bossier City, La.) was right behind him with 21, senior M/A Kyle Comi (Allen, Texas) scored 16, and senior A/MF Mark Temple (Houston, Texas) scored 13. Sophomore A Braxton Parchman (Shreveport, La.) scored 10 goals this season.
Comi, Spivey, and Temple each scored on Saturday and all three goals were un assisted. Sophomore GK Alex Nicks-Davis (Nashville, Tenn.) started Saturday's game and made 15 saves. He started eight games this season and finished with a team-high 128 saves.
Southwestern took a 10-1 lead after one period and never looked back to record the decisive win. The Pirates then outscored the Gents 6-0 in the second quarter for a 16-1 halftime lead and outscored the Maroon and White 13-2 in the second half. The Pirates finished with a 78-16 advantage in shots, 59-25 in ground balls, won 20-34 face off's and went 16-18 on clears. Centenary turned the ball over 36 times and Southwestern gave it away 14 times.
Logan Kenny led the Pirates with six goals and was one of eight Pirates to record multi-goal performances. 14 players scored goals for Southwestern and the Pirates finished with 18 assists.
