Kyle Comi Named HCLC Offensive Athlete of the Week

CARMEL, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) men's lacrosse teams competed in week six of the 2023 season.

Athlete of the Week:  

Offensive: 

Kyle Comi (Allen, Texas) Centenary College | Attack | Senior- Comi had a big week for the Gents in a pair of home conference games against Spalding and Earlham. He scored eight goals and tallied three assists with five ground balls and four caused turnovers. In the Gents' 23-2 Senior Day win over Spalding, Comi scored the Gents' first goal at the 13:45 mark in the first quarter and proceeded to score four more times and added three assists for a memorable Senior Day performance. He then had a hat trick versus Earlham along with two ground balls and two CT's. 

Defensive: 

Lance Guttormson (West Bend, Wis.) Hanover College | Junior- Guttormson led the Panthers to a 1-1 week in frame as he charted a victory over Carroll. The junior keeper charted 30 saves posting a 6.44 goals against average. 

 
Notable Performances:  

  • Dirk Meinhart (Elizabethtown, Ky.) Hanover College | Attack | Senior- Meinhart led the Panthers to a very competitive 1-1 week defeating Carroll and falling to Wabash 10-9. The senior netted six goals on a team-high 24 shots. He also picked up four ground balls. In the contest with Wabash, he added a goal with 18 seconds left to pull HC within one goal of tying the contest and forcing OT. 
  • Sam Sargent (South Weber, Utah) Earlham College | Attack | Senior- Sargent led the Quakers to a 14-12 win over Centenary College on Saturday with five goals and four assists. The senior took 14 shots, placing 11 on cage, and collected two ground balls.  
  • Dylan Miller (Shreveport, La.) Centenary College | GK | Sophomore- Miller made his first career start for the Gents on Friday versus Spalding and picked up his first win as he went the distance and made five saves in Centenary's 23-2 Senior Day win. He started again on Saturday versus Earlham and made five more saves in his 60 minutes. 
  • Donovan Shea (Colorado Springs, Colo.) Earlham College | Middle | Junior- Shea collected 12 ground balls with four caused turnovers in a 14-12 win over Centenary College on Saturday. The junior led the EC defense in both categories, he also went 53% (7-13) on faceoffs.
