Gents Soccer Concludes Home-Opening Weekend with 2-1 Loss to East Texas Baptist

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Gents overcame an early goal surrendered to the Tigers to tie the game at one at halftime, but Centenary (0-3-1) could not overcome a score by East Texas Baptist (2-1-1) in the second in a 2-1 loss Saturday night, September 9, at Mayo Field.

The Gents knotted the game with a shot off the foot of sophomore Gabe Rodriguez. In the 20th minute, freshman Gin Pau kicked a ball back to Rodriguez at the top of the box. Rodriguez struck ripped a shot that found the back of the net in the top right corner to tie the game at one.

However, the Maroon and White could not overcome a 12-2 deficit in shots in the second half and a 21-9 deficit in shots for the game (9-4 East Texas Baptist in shots on target).

The Tigers scored the game winner when Daniel Lopez scored off a corner kick in the 59th minute. East Texas Baptist took an early 1-0 lead in the second minute when Thomas Sanford's initial shot was blocked but the rebound was cleaned up and the second attempt found the back of the net.

Senior Kaleb Behm grabbed seven saves for the Gents and continues to lead the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in saves with 20.

Bryant Botello added three stops for the Tigers between the Pipes.

Centenary plays its third-straight home match next Friday, September 15, when it welcomes in Texas Lutheran. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
