Gents Soccer Scores in Both Halves, Records First Shutout of Season against Schreiner

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Gents found the back of the net in each half and held the Mountaineers scoreless as Centenary (1-7-2, 1-5-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) knocked off Schreiner (2-7-2, 0-5-2 SCAC) 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Mayo Field.

While Schreiner had the first two shots on goal, Centenary made sure its first shot on target found the back of the net in the 20th minute. Sophomore Gabe Rodriguez served the ball into the penalty area, and classmate Scott Halper went far-post for the finish and his second goal of the season.

The Gents scored an insurance goal in the second half when junior Nick Hammond put the ball in front of the net and freshman Gin Pau finished for his first collegiate goal in the 59th minute.

Sophomore Alejandro Barboza and junior Seth Fountain both had 1v1 in the second half, but Schreiner goalie Brandon Anselmi came out and deflected the ball for corner kicks.

Schreiner outshot the Gents 20-14, but Centenary had seven shots on goal to the Mountaineers five.

Senior Kaleb Behm saved all five shots faced in goal for Centenary, while Anselmi allowed two goals on seven shots faced for Schreiner.

Centenary returns to action Tuesday when it hosts LeTourneau at 7 p.m.
