Men's Soccer Falls to Colorado College, 5-4, in Offensive Showdown on Road

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Centenary men's soccer team fell by a score of 5-4 on Friday evening to Colorado College in an offensive showdown at Washburn Field in its first road match of the season. 

The Gents (1-1) were coming off a hard-fought victory over LeTourneau on Tuesday in their home opener. Colorado College improved to 3-2 on the season with the victory. 

The host Tigers (3-2) led 2-1 at halftime and then the teams combined for six second-half goals with each team scoring three. Colorado College held a 34-9 advantage in shots and had 15 shots on goal compared to five for the Gents. Centenary, though, made the most if its opportunities near the net as they knocked in a season-high four goals. 

Centenary freshman midfielder Andres Bautista (Houston, Texas/Cypress Springs HS) scored his second goal of the season in the 56th minute Friday. He also picked up an assist on the Gents' first goal of the evening, scored by Rolando Hernandez. Bautista scored the lone goal for the Gents on Tuesday in a 1-0 victory at home over LeTourneau. 

The Tigers struck first with a goal by Samson Heyer just four and a half minutes into the match and after Hernandez's goal tied at for the Gents, Colorado College went up 2-1 with a goal just minutes before the half. The Tigers stretched the lead to 4-1 with three quick goals early in the second half (all within a six minute span), but the Gents' offense came roaring back with three goals in a row for the final margin. Following Bautista's goal, freshman midfielder Nick Garcia (Carrolton, Texas/Hebron High School) and fellow freshman and Texan Jaron Petreas (Denton, Texas/Guyer HS) found the net. Jaron's older brother Greg Petreas (a junior) was credited with an assist on Garcia's goal earlier.

The weekend road trip continues for the Gents as they square off with Johnson and Wales Sunday at 1 p.m. mountain time (2 p.m. local). Centenary will play five consecutive home matches from Sept. 24 to Oct. 6 following the road trip to Coloroado. #CTheOpportunity
