Men's Soccer To Face St. Thomas At Home

Shreveport – The Centenary men's soccer team returns home to face the St. Thomas Celts in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match set for 7 p.m. Friday at Mayo Field.

The Gents (6-4, 2-2 SCAC) are 6-0 at home this season and have outscored the opposition 14-1 and have posted five shutouts, which leads the conference. Centenary fell in both of its matches last weekend on the road, dropping a 1-0 decision at Schreiner last Friday and 2-0 at Trinity on Sunday. St. Thomas enters Friday's contest at 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the SCAC. The Celts have won three straight matches.

Friday's meeting will be the first between the two teams this season after a match scheduled for Sept. 20 in Houston was postponed due to weather and has yet to be rescheduled. Centenary is currently sixth in the league standings while St. Thomas is in a three-way tie for first place with Texas Lutheran and Colorado College.

Sophomore Wil Escobar, a midfielder from Cypress, Texas, leads the Maroon and White with six goals this season, three of which are game winners. His six goals are the third-best total in the SCAC. Escobar scored all four goals for the Gents in a pair of victories at home to open the SCAC play earlier this month against Johnson and Wales and Colorado College.

Escobar was subsequently named the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, October 6th.He currently ranks second in the SCAC in goals per game and fourth in points per game. Sophomore goalkeeper Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.) ranks first in the conference in save percentage, saves per game, first in shutouts with four, and third in saves with 55.
