Men's Soccer Drops Tough Match at Johnson and Wales Sunday

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Centenary men's soccer team dropped a tough match by a score of 3-1 to the Johnson and Wales Wildcats on Sunday at the Aurora Sports Park that lasted nearly four hours. The Gents fell to 1-2 on the season with the loss.

The match featured 26 total fouls, four yellow cards, and one red card and three second-half goals by Johnson and Wales (1-4-1) after the Gents held a 1-0 advantage at halftime. Senior midfielder Gabe Rodriguez (Bossier City/Airline High School) scored in the 41st minute to put Centenary up 1-0. The one goal lead would stand until Wildcats freshman Coby Zazueta connected on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute to tie the match. The Wildcats doubled up the Gents in total shots on Sunday (26-13) and Centenary held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Zazueta scored again off of a free kick in the 88th minute to give J&W a 2-1 lead and then the Wildcats added another goal a minute later for the final margin. Gents sophomore goalkeeper Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La./Lafayette High School) played another superb game in goal for the Gents before his ejection as he collected six saves and allowed only goal. Borchalli allowed just one goal on Tuesday in Centenary's home opener, a hard-fought victory over LeTourneau.

Centenary will face St. Thomas on Friday, Sept. 20 in a match set for 7 p.m. in Houston and then the Gents will play five consecutive home matches from Sept. 24 to Oct. 6 at the friendly confines of Mayo Field. #CTheOpportunity
