Men's Soccer Continues Homestand with Match Versus Austin College

Shreveport, La. - The Centenary men's soccer team welcomes Austin College to town on Friday in a match set for 7 p.m. at Mayo Field.

The Gents (2-2) dominated Hendrix on Tuesday in a 7-0 victory at home, scoring the most goals in a game since the Maroon and White notched an astounding 17 in a shutout win over Wiley back in 2002. The most goals in a single game the Gents had scored recently was five in a match versus East Texas Baptist in 2014.

The new playing surface at Mayo Field, installed prior to this season, will be officially dedicated  prior to the doubleheader. The celebration begins at 4:30 p.m. with a welcome and remarks by Centenary president Dr. Chris Holoman followed by the playing of the national anthem at approximately 4:50 p.m. A pregame tailgate party, sponsored by SGA, will begin at 5 p.m. and at that same time the Ladies face the 'Roos before the Gents follow at 7 p.m. "Up with People" will perform at halftime of the men's match.

Centenary scored four-first half goals against Hendrix on Tuesday to take a comfortable halftime lead. Senior forward Scott Halper (Franklin lakes, N.J.) scoring two in the match. Junior Shim Eliya (Fort Worth, Texas), sophomore Wil Escobar (Cypress, Texas) each added goals and Nick Garcia (Carrolton, Texas) joined teammate Halper in scoring two.  Junior forward Matthew Young capped the offensive outburst by the Gents with a late goal at the 78:35 mark to make it 7-0.

Austin College enters Friday's match at 3-3-1 on the season and is coming off of a 4-2 loss at home to Schreiner on Sunday. The 'Roos are 3-1-1 in their last five matches.

Friday's match continues a five-game homestand for the Gents with six of their next eight matches coming at Mayo Field. The Maroon and White open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Oct. 4 against Johnson and Wales and have eight home matches remaining this season.
