Gents Win Fifth Straight And Remain Unbeaten In SCAC Play

Shreveport – The Centenary men's soccer team extended its winning streak to five games with a 2-0 victory over the Colorado College Tigers on Sunday in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match at a steamy Mayo Field.

The Gents (6-2, 2-0 SCAC) are one away from matching their longest winning streak when they won their final six matches of the 2011 season. The Tigers fell to 6-5 and 1-1 SCAC with the loss.

Centenary scored just 31 seconds into the match as sophomore Wil Escobar (Cypress, Texas) scored his third goal of the weekend off the assist from junior Gin Pau (Bossier City). Escobar scored a pair of goals in the Gents' 2-1 win over Johnson and Wales on Friday. Escobar struck again in the 18th minute for a 2-0 lead. The 5-8 midfielder scored four goals in the Gents' two weekend matches and now has six goals on the season to lead the team.

The Tigers doubled up the Gents in shots taken in the first half (12-6) but Centenary goalie Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.) was solid in goal and collected five saves. The Tigers held the advantage in shots for the match, 23-10, but could not score. Borchalli finished with seven saves and a booming final kick which reached past the midfield line and bounced off a Tiger and out of bounds to seal the win.

Centenary is now 6-0 at home this season and have allowed only one goal in those six games, outscoring its five opponents, 14-1.

Centenary will face Schreiner (Oct. 11) and Trinity (Oct. 13) next weekend on the road for a pair of conference matches. #CTheOpportunity #GoCentenary
