Men's Soccer Eyes Fifth-Straight Win On Sunday

Shreveport - The Centenary men's soccer team goes for its fifth-straight victory on Sunday when the Gents face the Colorado College Tigers in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match set for Noon at Mayo Field.

The Gents (5-2, 1-0 SCAC) defeated Johnson and Wales on Friday night, 2-1, in the SCAC opener for both teams. Centenary received a pair of second-half goals from sophomore Wil Escobar (Cypress, Texas) to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit and pick up the win.

Escobar tied the match in the 60th minute off an assist from freshman teammate Jaden Harmon (Houston, Texas), and then gave the Maroon and White the lead and eventual win with a goal in the 81st minute off an assist from junior teammate Greg Petreas (Denton, Texas). Centenary goalkeeper Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.) played a superb game and recorded seven saves.

Centenary is now 5-0 at home this season and has allowed only one goal in those five games, outscoring its five opponents, 12-1. The Maroon and White faced previously faced Colorado College back on Sept. 13 on the road and fell, 5-4. In fact, that is the only match this season in which the Gents have allowed more than one goal. The Tigers are 6-4 and 1-0 SCAC and have won two straight matches and defeated St. Thomas, 3-0 on Friday in a road match.

Sunday's match wraps up a five-game homestand for the Gents. Centenary will face Schreiner (Oct. 11) and Trinity (Oct. 13) next weekend on the road for a pair of conference matches. #CTheOpportunity #GoCentenary.
