Diego Hernandez Earns SCAC Defensive Player of Week Honor

Shreveport - Centenary's Diego Hernandez has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday.

Hernandez (Carrollton, Texas), a sophomore defender, led a Gents back line that posted three shutouts last week at home. He played 250 of the 270 minutes in wins over Hendrix, Austin College, and the University of Dallas.

"I am extremely happy for Diego, said Gents head coach Kyle Symczak. "He has really played well this season and I don't think I've ever seen someone time a tackle like he does."

"Diego is a team-first player and it's great to have a competitor like him in our program"

The Gents (4-2) continued their stellar play with another shutout on Sunday as they blanked the U-Dallas Crusaders, 1-0, at Mayo Field. Centenary defeated Austin College, 1-0, on Friday after crushing Hendrix, 7-0, last Tuesday. All four Centenary victories this season have been shutouts and the Gents have outscored the opposition 15-8 on the season.

The Gents will be back at home for a pair of matches next weekend as they open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Centenary faces Johnson and Wales on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. and then welcomes Colorado College to Mayo Field on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Noon. #CTheOpportunity
