Wil Escobar Named SCAC Offensive Player Of The Week

Shreveport – Wil Escobar was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, October 6th.

Escobar, a sophomore midfielder from Cypress, Texas, scored all four goals for the Gents in a pair of victories last weekend at home to open the SCAC schedule. Centenary defeated Johnson and Wales, 2-1, on Friday and Colorado College on Sunday by a score of 2-0.

Escobar scored just 31 seconds into Sunday's match in helping lead the Maroon and White win their fifth-straight game. Escobar leads the conference-leading Gents with six goals this season, three of which are game winners, and ranks in the top three in the SCAC in points, goals, game-winning goals, and goals per game. Centenary has outscored the opposition 13-1 during its five-game winning streak and is 6-2 overall and 2-0 in SCAC play. Four of its wins during the winning streak have been shutouts.

"Wil is really playing well and I'm excited for him to get recognition, "said Centenary head coach Kyle Symczak." It's a testament to the hard work he put in during the off-season and his relentless approach to the game. I know he will continue to work hard for his teammates and continue to improve as a player"

The Player of the Week honor is the second for the Gents this season after Diego Hernandez was named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30.

Centenary will face Schreiner (Oct. 11) and Trinity (Oct. 13) this weekend on the road for a pair of conference matches. #CTheOpportunity #GoCentenary.
